"The Ichthyornis will act like a Pegomastax, where it steals the items of the player unprovoked"
for me that was enough not to continue reading wiki and went straight to game.ini to remove it from my game. Yesterday i lost ascendant hatchet by those guys but i was able to get it back...i really don't need this kind of molesting...
Yeah, your item drops in a bag or in their inventory
I have a low level character on the beach (the safest place to be right?), attacked by a 'stealth seagull' (as the 4 I have now run across that have attacked have all attacked from outside my LOS and if they make a noise it is hidden in among the beach's background noise clutter), combat starts with it ripping the weapon from my hand, so I replace it, it does it again, so I replace it, it does it again, so I replace it, it does it again.....aaaand......I'm dead. Rinse repeat for all 4 seagulls. What the ♥♥♥♥ are you suppose to do as a noob on the beach against the biological version of a Stuka when you are not given the option to use a weapon? Use strong language against it in the hope it dies of shock? I read somewhere they are vulnernable to bolas....super if you have learned the engram.
As a tame, Ichthyornis feels mostly useless unless. While high leveled wild ones can take 20 crossbow bolts to the face, tamed ones are much less robust while their attack damage remains quite small. Having a few of them set to collect fish is about their only use, and that doesn't work reliably long-term due to other birds attacking yours, or the fish in the river being fished out. It's more efficient to just hop on a Pelagornis, fly around coastlines looking for an isolated megalodon, land your bird nearby, kill and harvest the megalodon.
Tamed Ithyornis is one of my new favorites, they are AMAZING at early game taming for collecting prime fish, and prime fish meat. Esp if you want to rush a higher level early game Baryonyx.
