Underwater Bases
Anyone else think that restricting the building of underwater bases to tech teir only is a mistake? I was hoping this new feature would be more widely available - perhaps at metal tier - to incourage more underwater play but if only the best tribes can afford it the only people underwater are going to be the alphas enjoying yet another one of their new toys.

I think a more steam punkish, metal tier underwater base build set would not only look cool but would open up the ocean to smaller tribes that have no hope of getting tek tier blueprints.

Not really, I mean it would be hard to get but think of it as something for you and/or your tribe to work for.

@Pixelrobot: I imagine mods of that like will pop up soon!

I kinda agree. But for it to work there would have to be downsides to using a non-tek underwater base. Maybe requiring fuel (assuming tek underwater bases doesnt already require this), and making it so non-tek structures would take more damage underwater?

...... you're planning on adding under water base pieces to your mod made from wood, thatch, and breathing reeds huh?

Although that dose sound rahter silly... I can still see that being a mod for those just unable to get tek teir.

They could also mod their server to make it easier to get TEK tier though.
Think there is some for it already actually.

I think that i already a mod, though I don't have it because console commands already exist. (If' im going to cheat to get it early I might as well get it frm the get go)

That would be the quickest way ofc :)

Or for those ark primitive servers out there, but one has to also wonder why we can have metal encased rafts but no metal underwater bases.

And for a drawback for metal it that you need pipes to the surface and a generator pump or something to keep the water out and fresh air in with the switching out filters on regular time. Meaning double resource cost to run.

This is why after 2k hours I've moved onto modded. The games more fun, even if you play close to vanilla settings. With the incoming flyer nerfs that will effect PvE even though its happening due to the people crying out for it in PvP. The volcano that will erupt and the Tek stuff being locked behind boss battles. Add in silly baby times and tame times (even though they aren't that bad these days). There is more reasons to play modded than there is to the official servers, the biggest reason for me is the support for official is complete garbage, so I have rented my own server and its been the best week so far in ark that i've ever had.

Metal is used for ship, subs, and all kinds of other things that go underwater all the time.

Metal tier should be all that is required but maybe it takes paint to protect it (look.. a real reason to make dyes other than just appearance) and tek level req'd to make underwater transparent parts and airlock.

Perhaps metal bases would also have a depth limit where Tek wouldn't. :oxygen:

I don't think realism is an issue. Nobody is saying wood or thatch tier, just metal and glass. Where does the oxygen come from? geothermal pockets underwater? tanks from the surface? who cares? the gameplay advantages outweigh any realism issues.

Sounds great , although for air you can just run a pipe to the surface hidden in the reeds ? :D
