Placing PIllars on a non-destroyable Rock
I've build a hause next to a large Rock, the House is only build on pillars, because its located at the beach/ inside the water.

Now I want to extend it and build a big tower next to it, making it to be placed on the rock next to the House. But now am facing a problem, I've tried build on to this Rock and place some pillars as foundations to place the ceilings on Top of it, but no mather how hard I try, the pillars want count as foundations even thought they are properly build down on to the rock. I've also tried to build the pillars further down (on to the beach) with K-Kamera but it the Game just want let me build any further down. I will upload some pictures to better describe what exactly I mean.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You had to ask ???
Look at all that wood.
This wouldn't last 3 minutes on an official server.

Yes its an unofficial PVE server, so dont worry about other player destroying it. But this doesnt change my problem of not being able to properly build it. As seen in the 2. picture I also tried to build the pillars on the ceiling next to it, to check if it will work there. But its the same for the whole Rock as I can't playe a pillar anywhere on it.

Got any ideas?

Some of the large nod-destructable rocks do not provide support for pillars or foundations like the ground does. Yours is apparently one of those.

You need to:
1. Put a chair up on top of the rock and pretend it's a tower, or
2. Find a way to extend those pillars all the way to the ground under the large rock. Maybe the admin will ghost in for you and add the pillars inside the rock, or
2. See if you can "bridge" the rock with ground support on both sides (depends on size of rock), or
3. Build your tower on a different side of your base, or
4. Do what people do when they are dissatisfied with their present house.... move. Use this base as your vacation lake house, but live somewhere else.

Allright thats some good information there. But whats the point in having Non-destroyable Rocks where you also cant build on it, especially when you can build everywhere else...

Well gonna sk the admin then.

try to put a pillar but in the foundation than you have next where you want to build, then when you have the "new pillar" in the foundation, you can build now the next ceilling where you want to build, (now you have the option to build the ceilling more tall than the anothers normals) because you have now a new "Snap point"

You obviously have never tried to build on the flanks of the mountains.
If you think you might want to build someplace on a non-destructable rock... always test the rock first before you start erecting your grand design beside it. Can save a lot of heartburn later when you find out the local zoning board won't give you a permit.

Well there's first time for everything isn't it? And how should I know there are Rocks you cant build on when you can littreally build everwhere else (inclouding bottem of ocean and almost vertically side of volcano)?

The non-destructable rocks look different than the ground. They also look different than the harvestable rocks. They are often on top of and at the ends of the long ridges running up the volcano and on the steep sides of the other mountains. The flatter ones... horizontal... usually are buildable, but the more steeply inclined ones sometimes are not buildable. It's a matter of whether that box was checked in their blueprint in the game engine. I guess the devs assumed no one would try to build there, or they got in a hurry. Again, if there is any question, best to test first.

It look like the rock is in the ocean. If so you can no longer build on rocks in the water. Ark changed that a while back. Or atleast most of the unbreakable rocks in the ocean. (I'm not sure about unbrakable rocks inland.)

I have an unbreakable rock in the middle of my water pen/ base. I build a bridge to it and had to make sure I put the pillar as close to the rock as possible. That held up a few ceilings and a ramp to get on it. I use the rock for a look out but nothing more.

Only other thing I have heard people doing is getting the server admin to set it so you can build on the unbreakable rocks but I do not know how that is done.

I asked because I was wondering if you are able to use the structures plus mod or not. There are some things it allows you to do that you can't always do with vanilla building.

If you don't have this mod I would really suggest it, it's a must have.

Wow thanks for the many answers.

First of all I will checkin the future if I can build on top of any chossen rock to prevent any problems like this. In this case I realy coudn't see any difference to all the other Rocks, i just looked like a destroyable Rock but due to its size I assuemed its non-destroyable one, but this could also be due to my low graphic settings ^^

As Angel correctly guessed the Rock is located in the ocean even though its just a few meters away from the actual beach. Since its too larg to build briges over it with pillars on both sides, I can only change my project and build the tower somewhere else.

I also checked the suggested mod from gamertaboo, from what I can tell by looking at the pictures, this will be very usefull, providing up side down slopped wodden walls and many other usefull things, which I've actually missed in the official Ark. I will check with the Admin if its possible to implement this mod on the server. Thanks alot for this suggestion and you kind help.
