set your tamed dinos to passive

will it still attack then and will not kill or just will not attack?

Passive means passive. They will do nothing not even defend themselves if attacked directly.

Time to learn about dino settings :) http://ark.gamepedia.com/Aggression_Level

I think your tamed dino is in "Attack my target" mode (because that will be the default when you tame it, and it looks like you dont know about these settings yet), meaning it will attack and kill anything what you attack.

As Hippo suggested set it to passive, for the duration of knocing out/taming. The slleping dino can be killed even accidentally, when you are fighting another dinos around it, because most dino attacks have area of effect, so they accidentally hit not just the intended target but the other targets around it as well.

Best is before you want to shoot a wild dino down press and hold the "t" button and go on "Whistle all passiv" all dinos from you (in the near) go on passive and after taming it put it back to neutral when you want to farm or hunt with them.
PS: you also can surround the torpored dino with fence foundation and walls to make the taming saver ;)

Personally, I do not take other dinos out with me when I am planning on taming a new dino. I am not even worried about whether my dino will attack or not but any dinos following you around can pull aggro off you while you are trying to tranq the new dino. then it becomes a race to see if you can knock the dino out before it kills your already tamed dino, or do you put your dino on attack and let it defend itself. No, a dino tagging along behind you when you are trying to tame another is a bad idea.

since we get ability to shoot while mounted Frog has became my no.1 taming pet, land or underwater. I also never take any dino party with me, just my frog and me.

The Semi-colon key is also whistle passive. Far easier than waiting for the wheel to appear then hunting for the right command. Also easier to put all your dinos on passive faster in tense situations.
