I'll find them typically in rivers next to the ocean for a general idea of where they are.
Do not listen, beavers are practically worthless for paste. We have 19 snails.
Every now and again, maybe once a week or 2, I have to feed them, I make about 80 cakes and put them in a feeding trough and they're good for a while.
Every 100 minutes I have another 1900 paste, passively farmed whilst collecting metal, or building, or getting berries, or fighting.
This resulted recently in 4 vaults filled with paste (At the time I was also doing a massive extension to the base and still had overflow)
I think I'll go for it - a snail farm appeals to me.
I'm located on the plateau at about 55,28 south west of the Volcano, so I'm right next to swamp, just across the river from redwoods, and have a nice little garden going. So making the cakes shouldn't be too much of a pain.
There are Beavers a stones throw north of me, but I feel bad destroying their dams :P
So I guess I'll be spending quite a few hours snail hunting tomorrow evening.
DarkFred - Frog is on my list as there are a lot of Dragon Flies where I am, but I have a hankering for the farm first.
However, the food drops slowly, and the cakes actually are not that hard to make.
This. Taming low levels seems appealing due to the time it takes, but you'll regret it later when you can't be bothered making vegetable cakes.
By the way, you should only really bother with snails if you have a Chemistry Bench, making stimulant in a mortat & pestle is just bleurgh.
