Basilosaurus fighting
Me and my friend just tamed one and were wondering what other aquatic critters we can kill with one. It's only level 22 at the moment though which wasn't helped by us losing our megalodon trying to kill the stupid zerg of mantas around it. :<

After I get a chance to hop on I'll link the stats although I'm not super sure how fast that'll go. :<

They absolutely CAN fight megalodons. I'm not sure how large or how leveled a swarm with your lvl 22, but if you put some speed/hp/stamina on it and are smart about picking your battles until you get a feel for it, it shouldn't be that bad.

I know from experience since I just tamed one with that melee damage and our server plays with floating damage numbers.

Some crazy nutjob on Reddit claimed to deal with Alpha Mosas with the Basil. Never in a million years will the Basil be a good choice for that job.
THat may friend is because we are dealing with... Trolls, best to ignore them

There's that word troll again. Seriously, since when did troll become 'Someone with a different opinion to me'

Yes, Basilos don't deal as much damage as a Mosa or a Plesi, however they are far more maneuvourable than either of those, they have a great aoe to their attack which is invaluable when compared to the clunky combat mechanics of the two big reptiles, can completely ignore jelly fish, heal super quick, and can deal with pretty much anything the ocean can throw at you. The only thing I would totally avoid on them is Alpha Mosas, and mid to high level Alpha Squids. Everything else is fodder to a basilo.

Put it this way, in the space of a couple of days recently I tamed a lvl 80 and lvl 110 Basilos, and a 125 Mosa. I will not touch the Mosa except in two situations; 1) I find an Alpha Mosa, 2) I feed it to a Squid. The Basilos provide me with everything I need in total security with none of the (imo quite horrible) disadvantages of the Mosa or Plesi.

My main problem is that it took so many hours to find one and it wasn't even that high level. And being an aquatic I can't just find another and make them have eggs to get a higher leveled one. :<
Could be spawns are messed up. Depending on how friendly and responsive your admin is, maybe you could ask them to do a wild dino wipe? I don't think they're particularly common (at least not on my map), but surely more than one should spawn on The Island.

I've been finding them all around the coast. herbi Island is a good spot. My base is on the Island and after getting my first one and going looking for a second one I did an entire lap of the whole map finding several lower level ones just to find the 110 on the other side of Herbi Island to where I started. If I'd have gone the other way when I started out I'd have found it in seconds rather than best part of 2 hours XD Was a fun trip though. Got fridges full of bio toxin and more angler gel than I know what to do with, plus a shed load of black pearls.

We did do a wipe after disabling troodon spawns but it seems a lot of dinos just have very wonky spawning. Meanwhile I flew through a section of the map and saw probably close to a hundred sawtooth salmon choking the river. :<
Was it the swamp river bordering south redwoods by any chance? :steammocking: I remember that always being a fish spawn mess. On the upside, you've got a great fishing and prime fish opportunity!

I'd have to look but I'm pretty sure it's the one in the very center of the southern part of the main island. Also the main reason I'm worried is I remember how our center attempt ended with hundreds of megas and icchies overrunning the ocean leading to us using the targetted wipe on their species.

Once you can breed these things and get the imprinting bonus, they'll probably be my main water mount. Their only real downside is speed. But imprinting will help with that a lot.

Pretty much ignore all that crap, I tamed a lvl 10 when they first came out and lvl it to like.....24 maybe and killed a 95 plesio with it no problem. Long as you lure stuff out of the 'crush depth' basils are very close to unkillable in a 1v1 against any wild creature except maybe alphas. (and a high end basil can definately go toe to toe with any aquatic alpha - if not a few moments out of the fight and its all healed up ready to go again)

Only real drawbacks to basils are the absurdly low speed, crush depth damage and only having primitive saddles currently. They are pretty much the best overall aquatic currently but that speed is a real buzz kill, which keeps them from outclassing bigger sea tames but once you have one you p only use sharks for squid taming.

Just answered my question as I was typing it, thanks!

Suppose I can use them to get into the two underwater caves on The Island as well. q.q
