Weapon range/accuracy/ballistics
This has been bothering me lately- I can't find ANY stats on the weapons in-game aside from damage, fire rate, reload speed, and capacity.
So, before I drop a ton of engram points testing everything:

-Does every (rifled) weapon have have the same maximum range? Is there a damage falloff?
-Are they 100% accurate? If not, do different weapons have different accuracies?
-Are they hitscan, or are bullets actually registered as moving projectiles? Are there differences in velocities? Is there a ballistic arc?

If someone could shoot me a link that has more in-depth stats, that would be great.

Don't have any links, just real game experience. Nearest I can tell, It's direct fire for firearms. The shotguns do spread, so they're definitely a close range weapon. I'm going from memory here, but the weapons do about the following damage: Bow 55, Crossbow 95, Simple Pistol 85, Fabricated Pistol 35, Fabricated Assault Rifle 32, Longneck Rifle 196, Fabricated Sniper Rifle 115. All these were against a level 16 Bronto, shot from above at the same range into the same region of its back between its shoulder blades and hips, so they should have all hit the same target zone. All weapons were of the same quality (Basic White). As you can see, all the Fabricated Weapons have pathetic damage, but they do have a higher rate of fire. The Fab pistol's DPS is actually about equal or less than the Simple Pistol. The Assault Rifle eats ammo like its nobody's business and you have to empty the clip to get anything like significant damage. The Fabricated Sniper beats the Long Neck on DPS, but most of the fabricated ones wear out faster than their more primitive counterparts, and require a fabricator to repair. We play PvE on Vanilla harvesting settings. We've raided all the dungeons on TheCenter and our load out is Pump Shotgun or Simple Pistol, Crossbow, Scoped Longneck Rifle, and a melee weapon of choice. That has so far been our most effecient loadout balancing weapon weight, durability, and Alpha Damage/DPS considerations. Hope that helps

I already knew the damage and DPS. I was more curious about range and the like.

For example, can a simple pistol effectively fire at the same range as the longneck rifle?
Nearest I've been able to tell. YES. The Longneck Scope lets you see farther, so it's easier to hit the target, but the bullets seem to have the same range. Also from what I've seen on a couple of Total Conversions where they've listed their adjustments, all firearms seem to have the same max range. From my own ridiculous long range potshots, it appears that way and there does not appear to be any adjustment for windage or bullet drop. Flyers are tricky, but I think that has more to do with server lag/ping. But it appears to be if the crosshairs on the target when you shoot, it hits.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
And I've not seen anything to suggest damage fall off for distance either. I have seen damage fluctuations on Sharks in the water with the crossbow, but it seems to have more to do with the shark's characteristics than with gun or range. We can actually track who is hitting the target by the damage markers coming up when we have different quality guns. 70damage at rifle range with the pistol, 70 damage point blank with the pistol. That answer your question better?
Guns do not have ballistics. It's kind of weird. :/
And damage that the different bullets/calibers have is a joke. I understand the concept of game balance, but what about believability? Doesn't have to be realistic, but believable would be nice. An Arrow doing more damage to dino than a Fabricated bullet is questionable, but then to say that a "high powered rifle" round of the Assault Rifle does less than the arrow or the pistol really breaks the believability of it.

I know. I don't get it. Screw balance, go for realism. ESPECIALLY if it is a survival game. :P

i really dont see the point in making the fab weapons balenced to the primitive weapons. the fab pistol should just be better than the primitive pistol.
Well, going from the pictures of the firearms (Artwork) we've kinda pegged the Simple pistol as an old Colt .44, Confederate Model. The Fabricated pistol appears to be a 9mm, though if I was gonna be around dinos, I'd have gone with a .45 ACP. Now comparing the .44 and 9mm, the .44 is gonna hit a lot harder, but not have nearly the range or accuracy of the 9mm. Still, I don't know that I'd put the 9mm at LESS THAN HALF the .44 though. The Assault Rifle looks like a 5.56mm, which once again, if dinos were around, I'd go with a 7.62 like the FN FAL. The Long Neck looks like an old Spanish Mauser, which I think fired something like the .45-70 round or something comparable. You get the same thing, more hitting power, but less range and accuracy. And that's compared to a 7.62mm. A 5.56 wouldn't have nothing on the .45-70, but would fire a hell of a lot faster and more accurately. The 7.62mm as the sniper rifle round is reasonable, but given the ballistic performance of a .45-70 to 7.62mm, I looked this up last week on wikipedia (Bad Source, but for a casual discussion, good enough) the sniper rifle's damage should be much closer to the .45-70. Personally, with dinos around, I'd like .50 BMG or 20mm Antimaterial Rifle...
God, what I wouldn't give for a M2HB mounted in a pintle turret on the back of a Stego...

The long-neck is an elephant gun, which is obviously a very good choice, save the low RoF.

Speaking of which, I just made mine. Disappointingly-low number of bullets, but I'm picking off dilos and pegos at the end of rendering range for practice, so range is definitely no issue.
Just had to bring up the DPI on my mouse a bit.

Yeah, sniping dodo's with a scoped Long Neck is great, though kind of a waste of ammo. Compy's are also fun to snipe. Not sure what caliber an elephant gun is, (agree its a good choice) but I think they made a .50-100 for Buffalo (North American Bison if we want to get technical) which could possibly be the Long Neck as well. Good stopping power for sure!

As for ammo yield, yeah, it's kind of steep, but with a good Ankylo, it's pretty easy to keep the Long Neck fed. I like the Long Neck for distance/initial pull, then switch over to pump shotgun for close up work. Backing away the whole time. Works out most of the time. Of course, both those are the most expensive for ammo. As far as it goes, the Simple Pistol is probably the overall most efficient in terms of mats for DPS, but god it's gratifying to drop a wolf/sabertooth at point blank with a load of buckshot... Also the Pump has decent durability too, unlike most of the other fabricated weapons.

Elephant guns were anywhere from .357 to 20mm, if I remember right.
Cool. Sounds like they'd definitely be effective!
