Bola. Stand on a rock, build a wooden platform, tranquil arrows or rocks

Bola doesn't work on trikes. If you are just starting out..

Aim for a lower level one.
Make sure you have plenty of mejoberries and narcotics on hand for the taming.. trike takes more time to tame than parasaur or the other "starter" dinos.
Pick a safe place to tame it because you might end up running around a bit to avoid it.
Using the bow & tranq arrows / the slingshot and stone.. (again, make sure you have enough arrows or stones and that your weapons are fully repaired beforehand).. just hit the thing and run from it. Its pretty slow so you can get to a safe distance before shooting again. If in need, use stimberries, just keep an eye out on your hidration level. If you own a faster dino (raptor / parasaur) you can use that to distance yourself since you can fire from its back anyway.

Or, use platform as Azgarod mentioned.

Goodluck and have fun!

Ah, I never needed a bola for it, but I was told it did. My mistake

You should have an extra bow or slingshot on hand, so you won't have to repair in the middle of knocking the trike out.

Kite the trike in circles, if you cannot do that....go play singleplayer and load the dinos for free because you'll never be able to tame anything else if a trike is giving you issues.

What a helpful and friendly comment.

Don't hit it in the head, it takes massively reduced torpor damage.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
