Ark: The best place too build a base!
So i know this question has been asked a lot, but none of them i had found was very good. My requirements are:

  • I need to be able to live there until late game
  • No dinos who can break stone walls and building blocks without being aggravated.
  • It doesn't matter if it's good for pvp or not. (I'm one of the server owners, and we are very peaceful on the server.)

I'm very thankful for all responses! :steamhappy:

Edit: Where do you guys live?

Island or Centre?

Herbivore Island?

Pros:
*Good lagoon for aquatic dinos
*Has metal/oil/pearls/crystal very nearby
*No carnivores
*Two underwater caves and 3 nearby sea crates

Cons:
*Way out in the boonies
*No nearby obsidian
*Limited real estate for building/dino storage
*Sometimes has a titanosaur spawn

Near the coast works.. along the east side near the swamp is plenty of flat area for a largish base. Pretty much have to fly/convoy to get mats...

Winter wonderland or the redwoods would work too, but you'll need a lot of prep to move there easily (stone/metal ground base... want it up fast with the hostile mobs)

Redwoods do have some bonuses with the tree platforms (platforms plus is nice for that) and you can ramp up to them if needed to do a lower level holding pen (done it once for large dinos... never again just the small ones so many pillars)

Best place for a new player to build a starting base is RAFT.

Because you own your own server, literally everything and where to live is relative to:

1. Your server's settings- If you for example have high rates for harvesting, high stat allocations for players and -tamed- dinos for every stat etc, then you can live anywhere and not worry. Getting fortitude above 120 lets you stay naked for example in the frozen areas. These can really increase base location options.

2. Mods you may use- Keeps mod=looks like stone(and can be changed to look like wood or other materials) but is metal tier durability(very nice mod btw). Laser sentries(use electricity and can be set for high damage to melt anything). Resource crops LTE(able to produce all basic mats without water, fert or crop bonus needs), and the list goes on.

i live over in footpaw (if you don't know where it is, there is a picture on the wiki) it's a pretty nice spot, but there is a lot of pegomastax as well as dilos. an occasional raptor every now and then, but for the most part, if you can deal with those 2 guys, then you'll be fine, it's a good area, has stone nearby, plenty of wood, just no good metal sources nearby.

My group lives near the coast. Very close. On the beach, nearly in the water, with a fence around the little village in which we live. Sometimes things come down to bother us though. But it does seem a whole lot safer, and calmer than the inner land. Not sure that's worth much. I'm new.

I'm building mine on the overlook facing south at Lat:52, Long: 29 using the Castle/Keep and Pillar+ Mods

Nice view, lots of boulders, bushes, and trees, and not a long flight to the volcano for metal, obsidian, and crystal. Also not too far from the snow biome for the oil rocks. Therizins tend to stack up after a while. Seen a few Allos, one rex, a handfull of spinos. Don't know about alphas or gigas cause I have them turned off.

I'm a sucker for super flat areas, and I've found two on the west side of The Island; 58|23 in a pit & around 57|19 if you clear the forest.

Thanks for all the responses! I will comment and let you all know where i'm going the build it as soon as i decide!

South 1 is GREAT as long as its not taken and i live there too the biggest thing i saw around there was a lvl 1 spino and they are rare also there is a lot of resources like metal wood fiber berries and a little crystal. Also its close to the swamp redwood volcano oceans other islands and the red obelisk. Also its kinda flat and there is a lot of space. And other nearby islands have a ton of other dinos.

Pros: are above

Cons:Not by that much obsidian and a lot of water

Neutral:Lower lvl dinos, (my highest encouter was lvl 56) paraceratherium, brontos, and small dinos like dilos and pegomastax sometimes spawn but not much if you build there, and there are huge oceans with some rays and megaladons (rarely anthing else like parahnas.)

Ps:That spot is usally taken because its a nice spot and its one of the easiest places to live and safest.

Pss:On the island

If you play The Island, South end of the island near water is the best option , however I had a few settlements already and I didn't find it difficult to build in the central part of the island either, my new settlement is on east coast, it's a good place too, no trexes, just a few cornos in the jungle along with Therizinosaurs, however most creatures in my area are herbivors, brontos, Parasaurs, a few dinos and pomby dinos
