Reason i say that is .... for just pve i would say no. Its not. For pvp or pvpve however then yes it is.
Just my opinion
I always play on PVP servers but I enjoy PVE a lot too.
The map just didn't have enough variations to it. Imagine living on carno island with dragons... There ya go
Short answer: not now.
Long answer. Everything(dinos items etc) can be accessed via others on official server clusters and on unofficial servers that are employing mods that have such (tabula rasa mod for example or volcano modded map). Only thing you thus are truly paying 20 bucks for is the map and the maps mechanics itself.
Thus wait until there is a big sale to get. You just missed it for less than 10 bucks when conan exiles was launched to marketingly mitigate it. Because of that, expect that the next major steam sale or some other similar situation that arises that SE will be similarly or even more so discounted.
no need to buy it if there aren't any servers that look good.
I enjoyed and still enjoy it.
I played it on PvE servers and got 600 hours out of it and would go back one day. Even though the difficulty has been reduced now, it is still a good challenge.
For your first game, try not to transfer dinos from other maps as it will just make the map easier and ruin the fun. At least wait until you are well established.
which mod maps are those? i have a ton of maps already but none of them are deserts
