No one asked for a moral lesson, lol.
Scorched Earth is pretty cool if you're into Ark. I got burnt out on Ark in general after constant base raids and joining a few servers only to find them reset and all my progress lost, so I can't really recommend it that enthusiastically, but if you like the base game, it might be worth checking out. Maybe watch a YouTuber play it to get an idea of what it's like.
The new creatures aren't really all that great, sure the mantis is fun (until you realise just how incredibly low its hp is) Vulture sounds great for meat gathering (until you realise you need to practically stand on top of the carcass for it to take meat so you may as well just hit it), Morello just stays stood around as a water tank, Jerboa has 0 use beyond weather warnings, Thorny is just a beaver that throws weak tranq darts from it's tail, Elementals just remove any challenge from the map with the exception of wild elementals who have ridiculous hp and damage reduction (a lvl 8 wild took my lvl 130 to under 50% hp before it died). The weather as mentioned above is just annoying, it doesn't offer any challenge it just stops your game play for awhile the only weather system that is an issue is superheat, sandstorms will never kill you, just stay still and your stamina will remain at 0 with you never passing out.
While I prefer SE map to vanilla for asthetics, after a short while I find it lacking in variety, I find myself relying on mostly the same vanilla creatures wolf/saber, carno, doed, anky, argie, The rex is just the most pointless addition to the map, you find one or 2 spawned in the most random places and always wheres it's big clunky self will get jammed inbetween rocks or stuck on a 2ft high slope it just doesn't fit the theme at all.
Just my thoughts on it.
You can definitely get all the dino's and items yes, but you can't get the map for free - so not all the content.
It's a great expansion. New map, new dino's, new uses for things and the weather makes things difficult early on instead of everything being about avoiding dino's. Easily worth the full price if you're into the base game and work anywhere that pays as much or more than a part time job at maccas.
Tldr version worth it for a different experience if you like the Base game particularly on sale. Make your own call on the dlc for ea game issue as that is moral and therefore highly subjective.
Interesting didnt realize it was a mod map that would make sense for alot of the "Quirks" I have been running into.
