Cannot feed beer to Chalicotherium

I play singleplayer and found a cool looking high level Chalico by my base. I couldn't find any settings to speed up beer production, so instead I spawned some in(deleted necessary materials first) to try and tame it. But when I put it in my 0 slot and walk up to the Chalico, it still says I need to put food in the last slot to tame? I can feed it stim berries, but not the beer. Am I doing something wrong?

To feed it beer to tame it you have to knock it unconscious, then put the beer into it's inventory. The way you tame it without knocking it unconscious is to feed it Rare Flowers.

Is it not just a passive tame with Beer anymore? was when it came out

You got this completely wrong mate.

You put beer liquid that is jarred in slot 0 then sneak up behind the Chalico and feed it the beer. Best to wear camo gear to help not aggro it.

The problems i've had with Chalicos in the past is that once i give the first beer sometimes it doesn't say i'm allowed to give the next even well after the time has past.

Tested the rare flower thing, didn't work. Knocked out a lower level and couldn't access the inventory; they're not knockout tames.
Does spawned in beer just not work then? I used the spawn code listed on the wiki page. It just doesn't seem to register that what I have can tame them.

The problems i've had with Chalicos in the past is that once i give the first beer sometimes it doesn't say i'm allowed to give the next even well after the time has past.

I believe this applies to many of the passive tames. After feeding the critter once, the next feeding seems to take forever, after that though successive feedings seem to go as scheduled.

Yes this is quite common. Another thing that happens sometimes is the tame will suddenly go to 0 food and start starving to death and won't allow you to feed it any more.

I set up some beer barrels, guess I'll just have to wait 9 game hours and see if this works. The beer jars I'm spawning work fine and get me drunk, just won't be taken by the Chalico.

maybe u need to fly away and come back so that its rendering again ( i had a similar problem after the first feeding)

Unintentionally tried that. I flew around the map trying to tame any I could see, then flew back to the one I want and tried again. I can feed it stim berries without an issue. If I put the beer jars in the 0 slot it says "Put taming food in last item slot to feed!". Really bizarre.
