Not enough disk space?
My computer says that I do not have enough disk space to download the new update, even though I have more than enough left.
"Used space": 222,732,288 bytes
"Free space": 999,846,137,856 bytes
"Capacity": 1,000,068,870,144 bytes
Does anybody know what's going on? I would really appreciate some help so I can play the new patch :)
Thank you!

Some reason the brilliant minds that designed Ark in their infinate wisdom have decided for darn near every 1 gig patch you need they want to take up 10 or 20 gigs. As for why I never got an answer months back when I asked so I uninstalled the game myself. Best advice is patch til it stops. Uninstall a game or two and finish patching and then reinstall the games you uninstalled. That's what I did for awhile before I finally got fed entirely up with it. Good luck my friend. :)

Well

36GB free space is required to install the update

perhaps you are reading your free space wrong?

You could just uninstall the game and reinstall it, the game would then come with the update.
but eh.. up to you

He has a TB of free space. That's a glitch of some kind.
OP try downloading another game, see if that works first. Make sure it wants to download to a path on the hard drive with the TB of space.

So you have a 1TB hdd or 1000GB drive. It has 999GB of free space with 222GB used. You sir just divided by zero or reading the information incorrectly... just open up my computer and see what it shows for the C: drive and it will tell you in layman''s terms how much free space you have.

i was thinking that didnt make sense
glad i was right lol
I checked the 'downloading' folder and a previous patch was still taking up 40 GB. Clearing out that folder gave me the space to install.

Once I started the patch download it instantly put the downloading folder size up to like 30/40 GB, this game eats disk space.

Have a feeling the temp files are not always cleared after installing. Not at PC now sonwill have to check this.

I see 999GB free and 222MB used.
however, if he has plenty of space there must be a glitch.

If he has 222mb used space, Windows isn't on that drive. So I assume he has two. Maybe his Steam defaulted to installing it to the driver he has Windows on, which is full?

Didn't work. I only have three installed steam games left, still won't download.

Tried installing world of warcraft, same problem.

Where can I find the other drive? And where would I change the installation location?

Sounds like Steam wants to put it on a full drive then.

When you go to download it, at some point before it starts downloading it will ask where you want to install it. there should be a drop down menu that allows you to choose one of the locations you set previously. If there isn't one for the 1tb drive you want it on, add it through Steam settings in the top left.

Top left Steam > settings > downloads > "STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS"

Eureka! It works!
I have to wait through another half hour or so of waiting, but I think it is going to fully download the game this time since I found out there was another drive!
Thank you so much for your help!

Hey that's awesome. I just logged back in steam to see how you was coming along on that. Glad ya got it worked out mate. *Hi5!* Yayyy!!!! lol :)

On what kotawolf and NGCaliber said on the reasons why regarding the patch sizes I guess for me I never noticed it on my other games. I only ever noticed it with Ark and Dead by Daylight. Maybe it's just because they are such big patches is why it is so noticable with those games. I have actually decided to do a big purge on my terrabyte drive myself and wiping about half of it once I upload all my non-steam games to my online storage that I am not really playing anymore. Just the only confusing part for me is usually when a game is compressed it should normally be smaller then the patch size itself not larger. If it required the whole game download wouldn't that mean every patch would atleast be 40 gigs or better? I am not sure how all that works I just know my patches have varied in sizes and I always had to remove a game or two to make it fit.

In any case again Juice glad ya got sorted mate. :)
