Server Not Responding
Hey there,

So I've seen a lot of posts about problems similar to my own but with no solid, helpful advice that I can act on. So I wanted to mention it again. I recently created my own ARK:SE server (about a week ago) and can't seem to access my server either in-game or through Steam > Servers. It did find my server name in the list but when I tried to access it ther server didn't respond.

So my question is why this is and how can I fix it so I can actually play my ARK game at long last?

Thanks!

-Do you have correct ports open?
-are you running ark server on different pc hopefully? ( not from same pc you play game on)
-are you using any mods for SE?
-are running server on wired connection hopefully?
-mods? Make sure update, both on serv and game client connecting have be same version.

1) you'll need foword the correct ports open in the router and windows firewall ( or Linux/Mac OS). Then on that pc ( make sure server is not runnin) you'll want to check to make sure the ports are open on that pc. There are free software out there can use to do a port check.

2) running ark on different pc is bit harder, but gives best performance.
Are you using asm? (Ark server manager?) if so. Make sure you have ark using raw socket.
If not then you may have to enable it.
?bRawSockets

I'm using this setting in ASM and it got update recently and seems to help.
http://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/493/udp-config

You may have do some more googling about this. I've had turned on and left it. It's been good.

You'll want make sure ports for TCP,UDP are open, default ones are 27015. 7777-7779, and 32330 for rcon port.

You should be able see your sever in steam LAN list, if not. Then manual type in the ip of the server in steam server list, add to your fav, spam refresh. Steams list for ark server are bit hit and miss. Cuz there just so many ark server out there.
You may also have to go to something like arkserver.net and add your server name/ip to there list. Hope this helps some, good luck.

Hey thanks for your reply,

- I am using every single port both TCP and UDP that were found on https://portforward.com/ports.htm and used the program Simple Port Forwarding to forward them all. They were all successfully open.

- I am running ARK and the server on one PC (laptop). The server is just for me and maybe one or two friends sometime in the future, but primarily just me.

- I don't really like using mods so I'm not using any, nor, probably, will I ever.

- By wired connection do you mean am I using something that's not Wi-Fi? If so then no, I am using my Wi-Fi.

Also, I'm not using anything called Ark Server Manager, I manually created this through use of .bat files. I was helped greatly by reliable sources here: https://youtu.be/55WOyzuDKq8 and here https://youtu.be/ac46-LvRaag.

I checked the ports 7777 and Simple Port Forwarding didn't find it. Also, that port is not listed on https://portforward.com/ports.htm

I gotta get to work now but I hope this info helps!

Thanks,

Well actually the portforward site is utterly ♥♥♥♥ regarding the Ports for ARK.
Ark don't need any TCP Ports forwarded.

Standard Server Installation would need UDP Port 7777 & 27015 forwarded to the Server.
Firewall on the Server needs to be setup so ARK can be accessed trough it.

Hey again,

Thanks for the responses. So far I'm seeing people agreeing that ARK Server Manager is the way to go and to do away with the Simple Port Forwarding site. So that seems like a lot of work, would I need to undo all the stuff I've done on Simple Port Forwarding in order to use ARK Server Manager or can I just go straight to that site (I'm assuming it's a site) and go from there?
Also, it seems like 7777 and 27015 are the best ports to use.

Let me know what you think I should do.

Thanks!

Hey Lofty Heights

yes and no.. I have been running ASM for almost 2 yrs now.. I've had more then couple server up from when I first started to now 2+ yrs later.. ASM is a lot more capable then what it use to be..Of course they don't work with Wildcard (Wish they would hire them) but they have been very friendly and helpful with me. Even had some devs from ASM help me out a few times. Once even with remote share lol

My own complaint is about ASM. Their forms has been target for trolls in past. for life of me, I can't figure out how reply some older msg now.. But other then that, I love there UI manager.
Best I've used ever when running a server :)

There "May be a way" to import your current settings from just normal Ark server. How you do that/import it. I'm not exactly sure. However once you have ASM installed. It's prety simple to follow. You then have very easy UI menu that pretty much lets you configure everything to your heart content. From A to Z. Look at the patch notes, See what they have all added lately.

http://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/3/downloads

As for ports. You can use what ever port you wish.. I had issue for some reason using default 27015 port.. Been running mine on 27020 and it's been working great. Even though I have ports open in windows firewall and my router. 27020 always work for me..
Also 7777 to 7779 seems to be used so you may need open up that too.

I'd recommend tho before you do that.. Do a complete backup of your current ark server.
Just for backup. Like winrar or something.. Have it copy to USB flash drive just in case right?

--- Note/Warning--
Make sure when you install ASM in own folder.. And the Ark Server in different folder.
As to how import your current setting, Not sure. Sorry (trying find some info but not having much luck)

Here is Beals Warning about installing ASM
-----
When the ASM upgrades, we delete the original ASM directory as part of the process. As a result you should *never* put any files - particularly server installations - in the same place as the ASM itself. The ASM does not currently prevent you from doing this - I will add checks in an upcoming version to warn you against this.

-----

Beals is prety cool dev/guy he's helped me a few times. Here his how to install ASM video :)
http://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/903/beals-set-asm

So example

C:\Asm (for Ark server manager)
C:\Server 1 Centermap (For profile 1)
C:\Server 2 Theisland (For Next profile/Serv 2 )

There FAQ did help me a lot
http://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/1194/faq-frequently-asked

There should be section in the FAQ how import already ark server setup (I think) but in truth.
It's not that hard to go threw the ui of ASM and all pick what you want.. Yes it's bit of learning curve but not that bad..

If you need further help.. I can try help you if I can some?
Hope that helps

Hey again,

So I went through the ASM set-up process and while the SteamCMD and ASM said my server was up and running I cannot find it in the Steam Servers list. When I type in the attached IP address for said server it brings up the IP:PORT# combination but says for status [not responding]. I port-forwarded all ports, including the 7777+ ones but nothing is working.

This has been a constant source of frustration for me. I just want to play the game with no mods and no worries about other people killing me in my sleep (logged out times).

Can anyone shed more light on my situation?

Cheers!

Open up steam, At top menu above store Menu (Steam/view/friends/games/Help) in small text
Steam -> View-> Servers -> Favorites-> Add a server ->
1) -> you ip # here -> Find game by this Address.. )
May need hit " Find game by this address " a few times. Its steam issue.

Make sure there no space at begin or at the end ### (Ip #)
if there is space or if you copy it wrong, You will not find the server correctly. Please follow these direction carefully or it will not work. You May NEED spam refresh many times. if this don't work Try this: (Paste the line below into your browser)
steam://connect/yourip#here:27015 (or what ever port your using) It be 270xx something

As for ports open

TCP/UDP = 27015-27020
TCP/UDP= 7777-7779
Rcon: 32330
check mark -[Use Raw sockets]

A) are you seeing your game on lan you should?
steam://connect/yourip#here:27015

B) have you done port check?
C) check your windows firewall. Both your router and windows firewall have be config for same ports.

Not Sure what else to suggest..steam and ark servers don't play nice cuz there like thousands and thousands of ark servers out there (prob too many) and Ark game client cant always see every server.. Use Steam server list.. Once you find your server.. it may disconnect first time.
But you should be find 2nd time.. and you should be connecting via Lan. If your on same network. Unless your Server is run from somewhere else?

Try that.. If Let's talk on steam if you wish ok? send me Friends request. (or maybe on my discord?) Good Luck.

Hey there,

Unfortunately I'm still not having any luck. I did port forward correctly (step-for-step by many tutorials). I am not even showing up on LAN. I even created Inbound/Outbound rules for the ARK programs and all appropriate ports. I tried to type that URL into my address bar to no luck. It said it didn't find anything. Also, I'm running the server just for me, no one else, from my room, my laptop.

Well thanks for all your help anyways!
:p2orange:Lofty Heights:p2blue:
Try setting in Asm Query port 27020 and try changing server port to 7779

Your running server on different PC? Like Laptop or something? (I5+ or better / 8 Gb Ram+ )
and then using your good/ game pc? sorry been busy with my own serv and adjusting things too.

send me steam request..
