Are guns worth making for anything other than PVP?

Im headed north on the Island to settle in the snow, and Im wondering, is it worth making a longneck rifle and ammo to go out hunting, or should i just use it for taming only?

Longneck is ~absoloutely~ viable. In fact, it's Essential. You WILL need a longneck to Tranquilise more difficult tames.

For the task of killing stuff I'd recommend any of the two shotguns in the game, since any situation in which you need to kill something yourself will happen in close quarters. The spread and damage output make them great panic buttons.

Longneck is good I always carry it with me. It one shots most small birds, handy for them thief's. It also one shots dilos and raptors.

I also use it to lure big dinos into traps.

The fab pistol is helpful in close if you get mobbed because of its fast fire rate. It's safe me a lot from Sabers, wolf's and raptors.

Shotguns never really were worth it to me.

All in all I find that the compound bow is the best long range weapon, even if you only use stone arrows with it

Longneck rifle. After some outrageous robberies by Thief Birds, i made a vow to hunt every single one of them i find. 1 shot and they are dead. I'll make em all pay.

Im the exact same. I will stop anything I'm doing to kill everyone I see. Even them stealing my rifle doesn't stop me. Them stealing my ammo is annoying but I am a good shot with the bow.

They will all die if it's the last thing I do.

Becoming? No, no, no. That is long past. I even have shot peoples tames coz I don't like them birds. Tribe members know to hide them when I come back to HQ. I have my own base away from tribe. They told me to go on my own coz I kept killing the birds.

They will all die no matter what.

I can't remember but do you have to arm c4 before it is able to go off? I just had a thought if you don't.

I'm so doing that when I have enough polymer.

Atm I am able to kill them in flight from about 100 yards with the bow.

I even tranq them some times and kill them with wood spear. They deserve slow painful deaths if they steal my gun or ammo, it happens a lot.

So story of how I was banished from HQ, I am tribe leader so they can't kick me out. A new member came running up to me and was so excited he tamed a bird that was hard for him to catch. But before he could even tell me I shot it off his shoulder with my longneck. His reaction was priceless, it was the first time I had met him.

It had been a few days since I played and the tribe had tamed a few of them. So I got my revolver and some bullets went through the base and killed everyone of them.

Maybe the pump shotty would work. Get them to swoop you then hoot them point blank with it.

I wonder if I could hit one with a rocket launcher.

I have used over 1000metal just killing these birds. But they have stolen so much off of me.

Im the same way with them other thief's but I don't kill tamed ones of those and I mostly let my dilos army deal with them

The real answer depends on how readily available metal is to you. If you can get metal easily, guns as damage-dealers can be very viable. If you can't... you may have to be much more selective about when to use them for anything other than tranq darts.
