No. You do not.
You Ascend. You lose items and dinos you had in the cave with you.
You see the "ending"
The Credits roll.
You get pushed back to the main menu.
When you reconnect, you will be given the option to make a new character or download one.
Selecting "Download" will give you the option to select the character that had just ascended.
You will wake up on a beach with a new implant and a higher level cap.
Your level will be the same level as whatever you ascended as.
Yeah not a small amount of derailing of this thread from one specific individual.
Also on unofficial servers that have larger level caps or if they dont but have higher stat weights per level, the efforts going through ascension at the moment(as this isnt going to be the end result for ascension by Jeremy's own words) are less meaningful.
You do understand that there are multiple server types and not all allow for pvp. The majority of ark players play on pve servers.
Also, you dont have to "start" an unofficial server (not sure why you think you would). Maybe Im just misunderstanding what you wrote in that regard but let me speak to unofficial servers as a whole if you've not ventured into them.
The majority of players play on unofficial servers(there are over 19000+ unofficial servers to the hundreds of official ones). You can google "ark server list" and pull up multiple websites that track ark servers and even filter for mods(which most play and even wc is encouraging by paying 4k a month stipends to some mod makers they like) or filter for other things. The in game listing for servers just doesnt give people a good representation of the variety to be had server wise but you can use it too.
All you do is either add the ip of a server from those website lists from the View---servers---add server field in the steam menu in the upper left side of your screen or you just click a server from the in game menu if you can find one under the "unofficial" server tab.
But take some time to research and vette servers to try out before just jumping into any. One tip, avoid servers that advertise wipes as if you like to actually build and tame, those will just waste your time because you'll be losing stuff pretty regularly(as most of those wipe alot so as to chase numbers verus understanding how to build a core community of players.
Im not making light of anything, Im was simply trying to impart more information to you since seemingly you have had very limited experiences in these regards and I wanted to clarify there was more out there otherwise. However you do see to be rather filled with angst at the moment on a few things so I'll just say good hunting to you otherwise.
Your thread on that got removed (rightfully I might add given the way you were attacking others which is a no no on here). But since you've decided to mention here I'll paste the response I was putting on there. But I dont want to seek to derail the initial thread otherwise so this'll be the only post to the issue that I'll make on it:
Wildcard devs have stated before that they do not like (righthand for example has stated this if Im not mistaken) people telling others that they cannot offer criticism and feedback with regards to changes or the game in general. They encourage criticism. However, they also take some of it with a grain of salt. Remember this game is still squarely in the alpha stage of development with a long way to go before launch. They have a general direction they want the game to go but in their GDC talk in march(should take an hour and watch it) they state that its flexible and thus meanders.
That said, they have adjusted (and explained their adjustment philosophy) some of the flyer stats since the initial nerf. Additionally though, there is mod called classic flyers mod which you are perhaps not aware of that has reverted the change made for unofficial servers that want to use such a mod(and last I checked it has 180,000+ subscribers to the mod since the nerf went out initially). Additionally unofficial servers (and single player too if they get into the ini files) can adjust the other stat weights more.
However, all of that doesnt mean others cannot continue to offer feedback and perspectives over the change. Also, remember that with millions having this game, that some take a break and come back and this change is a surprise to them and they then come to discuss it(always folks return en masse after each major update seems). Flyer nerf is only a month and change old really so its still relatively new as well.
But insulting and addressing others in the manner that you did in the initial post of that thread and then in the post there stating that others are childish for offering their criticism does come across was rather ironic in a non flattering way.
Both the flyer changes and the UI changes I've disliked(ui more for a host of reasons) but at least with flyers it has be able to be mitigated by those who dont want to play official servers and, which I can live with that but do sympathize for those who do and have no options except to leave their friends and community there or slog through otherwise and feel unclear.
But I also understand quite squarely that again this game now will not be the end result of what we'll see at official launch in the far future and there may be more changes that make these look minor. This afterall isnt the first pass they've made on dino stats(had a huge change around the start of 2016 for example).
But I am concerned as to whether or not the devs sometimes understand that what they develop in one direction they groomed the players for and that they sometimes should be more aware of that when they do make major fundamental changes otherwise. There is at times a disparity that they could do more to lessen as opposed to widen the gap there of.
