it just loses hunger over time until it gets low enough to eat what you have in its inventory. rinse and repeat. but much to many peoples disdain, there is currently no way to lower a dinos food any faster then normal.

Nope, sorry, there is a strategy where you can just not put food in its inventory once knocked out, and starve it until it has nearly no food, but then put a ton of food in its inventory and it should insta tame, or come close to it, this method has faster taming, but tends to make it lose taming efficiency so it gains less lvls.

it doesnt tame faster as the food still drains at the same speed. It just makes people think it tames fast because they only need to put food in once not keep eye on it.

Food decreases the same speed no matter what you do

however, there are mods that add items to make them lose hunger faster. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=833783749&searchtext=hunger
This one is my favorite because its not OP, it has a realistic crafting requirement, and has a downside to using them. Faster tames, but you need more narcotics.

Yep exactly, it doesnt tame faster and it doesn't lose efficiency.

The benefit of starving is when you are using a kibble that is in short supply and you don't want to risk losing that kibble by having the creature killed at 95% tamed for example. It's a typical early game strategy but once you have hundreds of eggs most people don't bother.

Ummm, nope. Starve taming is neither faster nor less effective. All it does is ensure that if the dino wakes up at all, or for some reason takes damage whilst it's ko'd you don't lose any of the kibble or other taming food you otherwise might lose if you put it on the dino as soon as it's ko'd. Also useful if you're taming using a food with a smalk spoiling timer such as Prime or Mutton. When starve taming it's advisable to use a calculator to work out how much you need its hunger to drop so that it will eat it all and tame up in one go. OP, there's no way to increase the speed of taming without either adjusting taming speeds on your server or SP game, or without the use of mods. If you're playing on official servers neither of those are an option except durin Evolution events.

Knock out a Dino and knock it out again to take it the next day. Food is WAY lower and u get maximum taming effectiveness. It does require u to wait the period of the dino's knockout, so it's really only effective before going to sleep or if u have a tight schedule.

Yeah currently Im losing taming, stuck at 97%, and lowered to 96 percent after 20 mins. Never happened before til now. Annoying as all hell

Taming efficiency drops over time, it always has. This is where kibble comes in, it tames faster so efficiency doesn't have time to drop. So not sure what you are saying hasn't happened before.

Taming efficiency only drops on 3 occasions:

1: the tame got hit by anything;
2: It had no food left in its inventory;
3: It ate a piece of food.

So time has nothing to do with losing efficiency on knock out tames.

"starve taming" is for risky areas is all so the only thing you have invested in the narcotics and tranqs/darts .

Since this is a necroed thread, i thought i would add that WC did add separate settings for wild and tame food consumption. So you can speed up taming without changing the amount of food needed to eat.
