When told to attack or thrown at a fish, the Ichthyornis will catch, kill, and return carrying its target. Its prey's corpse will have an aura indicating that collecting from the corpse will provide Prime Fish Meat, even if it is not normally dropped by the target creature. Additionally, there are several land creatures from which it can enable collection of Prime Meat from including dodo, pegomastax, lystrosaurus, trilobite, and compy.
Its ability to make Prime Meat available from very common and easily killed creatures makes the Ichthyornis a valuable asset for collecting food to efficiently tame carnivores.
Roles
Collector: Set the Ichthyornis to "hunt and retrieve" and tell it to attack a fish, it will return with a dead fish that can be harvested for Raw Fish Meat or Raw Prime Fish Meat. Larger fish means more meat. Similarly the Ichtyornis can target Dodos and Compys with "hunt and retrieve", which can then be harvested for Raw Meat and Raw Prime Meat.
To get it off you shoulder just double hit F like you would with any should pet. You must make sure it is on hunt and retrieve for it to work though. Hope this helps since I copied and pasted it from the wiki XD
awesome ty
i have it on neutral does it have to be aggressive? like it say "told to attack" i have been throwing it at fish to no avial i am scared to put it on agressive
*not sure if the hunt part is needed since they are on aggressive.
Every now and again if I need fish meat I just go empty my birds out.
Edit** Also.. I believe when you throw them they are automatically on follow, to you/ So even if you have it on aggressive, it should come back when done hunting, but.. it may decide to try and attack something it cant kill.. having it on passive should work when thrown, if in 'hunt' mode.
thank you that post was very useful we live near a pond so i might try something similar there!
