Turn off permadeath (or retrieve items & progress)
Hello,

I know getting into ARK is hard. But losing everything, including progress and experience just kills the fun .. at least for me. Over the last couple of days, I had to restart from nothing for several times now. All on single player, by the way.

Is there no way to turn off that permadeath or at least have the new character receive the experience .. and possibly items .. gained before? Again, all in singleplayer mode.

Sounds like your playing hardcore dude

Sounds like you have hardcore mode on. Turn that off and you'll keep levels and experience, all you'll lose is your stuff.

I just checked, the box for hardcore mode is not ticked.

if it isn't checked... then when you die, you are provided 2 distinct options. One selection on the left ask you to respawn randomly, and the option on the right ask you to create a new survivor. Are you clicking the left button or the right? Cause many have done this, only to realize they forgot to read.

I think I understand where you are getting at. I clicked the right one because I did not want to spawn randomly anywhere on the island but in the sector before. I assume respawn randomly is not exactly what it sounds like?

It respawns you randomly, in the sector you selected.

Aha, there's the problem. Respawn randomly respawns you at a random location within the spawn zone selected, which can be quite a journey away depending on your spawn location. It does not randomize the spawn zone. Example, if South 2 is selected, you will respawn somewhere in the South 2 spawn zone, but not necessarily exactly where you spawned originally, or the time before.

put sleeping bags (one time use) or beds (multiple use) down at different locations, that way you can spawn at any of them.
Sorry if you knew that already.

Thank you all. You saved me from some future rage quitting.

That's good, don't feel too bad it's a common mistake. Everyone does it at least once. Kinda like leaving a tribe and realizing you lost your home and pets.

Something else you might be interested in. There's a mod on the workshop, I think it's called death helper? It gives you the ability to create an item from 1 stone that you can use to locate your corpse after you die. I never play single player without it because of how often your body can be flung around upon death to the point you could never find it.

It also saves you the grief of finding out your body or bag fell through the world. Standing approximately 15 feet from where your body should be and using the item pulls the items out of terrain if they're stuck and to you.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this! I got off line raided and a paracer that had been a hard tame in the forst place ran off. I found it like 2 weeks later by chance hidden in a swamp. Gathered it up and DECIDED TO JOIN A TRIBE. Lost it. Quit. Never went back.

Lol. It happens. I have my own server now with 25 percent more platform saddle as a coping mechanism.

How reliable is that and is it compatible with Survival plus?
Essedus Jun 6, 2017 @ 12:54pm
It's never failed me before, ever. As far as working with survival plus, I've never tried it but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
