Harpoon gun is NOT worth using.

I recently did the math on the harpoon gun. What a joke. I tested it on a 150 mosa.

Primitive xbow- 184 tranq arrows. Materials needed for tranq arrows to KO a 150 mosa: 368 thatch, 184 flint, 368 Fiber, 184 Narcotics.

Primitive Harpoon Gun- 97 tranq bolts. Materials needed for tranq bolts to KO a 150 mosa: 1746 metal, 1358 wood, 1940 thatch, 1949 fiber, 194 cementing paste, 1164 gunpowder, 291 narcotics.

I did the math on a `230% xbow vs `230% harp. 46 tranq bolts for harp or 79 tranq darts on a xbow for a 150 mosa.

The sheer number of materials required to KO a 150 mosa with a harpoon gun makes it worthless to us (unless you enjoy wasting materials). The harpoon gun takes roughtly 55% less shots to KO the mosa but again the materials are insane.

I would much rather take the extra shots with an xbow to KO a mosa then waste so many more materials for 50% less shots.

The bolt materials required needs to me altered dramatically to make the harpoon worth using.

I also understand you can retrieve the harpoon bolts but through my tests, you could pick them up off the ground but couldnt pick them up off the animal you were shooting. Plus by the time you shoot 46-97 bolts, a vast majority of them will disappear before the animal KOs.

Please fix the bolt materials to make it worth using.

i haven't seen a decent harpoon drop so just off of the base harpoon gun it's nowhere near using compared to my 240% xbow doing 2.5x the torp per shot. base harpoon should be doing high end xbow torp and scale from there... at least to make the mats worth using.

A higher tier crossbow is far superior honestly. Since they brought in the harpoon gun I have NEVER seen a higher quality one from base. The harpoon gun is alright for a damage weapon underwater but it is trash for taming

While the xbow also works perfectly under water and the requirements to get the job done is far less .... That's the point the op is making and he's right The harpoon is currently a complete waste of materials and not much else besides of course a complete waste of engram points.

This. The chance is low, but when your oh-so-wanted 150 Angler dies to a crossbow close to the end of knock-out process it's kinda painful. And Harpoon is a fail-safe way of doing it.

And all this calculations in OP, using this logic (comparing only materials cost, not Damage/torpor ratio) we don't need tranq darts and shocking darts as they are much more expensive.

wait, harpoon guns have increased % blueprints now? last time i checked, they werent on any drop tables for the beacons/under water drops.

they're good for under water exploration and the only shoot able gun underwater rifle wont neither will snipers or pistols trust me if they could it would have helped me the megalodon horde attacking me while trying to build a lake base it was under water i completed it but theres still water in it help

As for the OP, agreed, mats are excessive. Ive slashed the cost of bolts by 3/4s or so on my server. I wouldnt think it a reasonable adjustment for official, but it really could use some trimming.
