Hyaenodon taming the easy way!
Here is how you do it:

Catch a hyaenodon and throw it in your taming pen. Now place a wooden cage and herd it into it. Since it is now frightened and wants to flee, move outside of its view distance so it calms down. If you accidently spook it just leave the render distance again to calm it down again.
Now put your ghillie suit on and approach the cage in a crouched position. Note: Never stand up while you´re near it, or it will instantly notice you.
At first it will move and turn around in the cage, but it will not take long untill it gets itself stuck. If you´re lucky like me it will get stuck with it backside facing the cagedoor, which is perfect, as you can see on the following picture.

Now put a clock infront of you, which shows the seconds and when it is time to cuddle (every 30 sec) quickly open the door, cuddle it, close it again and back up a few feet.
Take some time, since it will only get 2-3 percent for each cuddle.
The hardest task is to not fall asleep, because it is rather boring. ;)
Just repeat this until it is at 100 %.
As you can see in the following pictures, it never moved away from this stuck position the entire process, so it is really easy to do.

Enjoy your hyaenodon!

Yeah, I did try once, but the dam thing bugged out and never let me pet it again. tossed it back into the wild and forgot about them. just not worth the effort if its going to bug.
I'd say worth effort they are pretty crazy if get a few of them following a yutyrannus around not to mention its the only small pack critter that gets armor thanks to the meat pack

I plan to wait to see if they get tweaked. I pet one, leave the area, come back 10 minutes later and the bastard is still freaking out. I'm just not going to bother with a ... maybe it will work after half a bloody hour of not being able to do anything else and maybe it will just bug out and i'll have to get another one... situation.

try crouching with ghillie and using the cactus broth assuming you have S+ mod or scorched earth available

cactus broth. I will have to take a look. I only recently got Scorched Earth so there are a few things I am not familiar with there.
Ok, good.

Any way of doing this on PVE?

patience and lots of honey
I got an even simpler method, I just spam e and read a book while taming.

I recorded my screen with a phone, so sorry for the crap quality, but I just did it off the fly.

Hyaenodons aren't worth it. Their turning radius is so bad it makes them very difficult to use for killing things.
Can a pachyrhino cloud make them calm?

Unfortunatelly, no.

I tried and Hyaenodon did not stop moving. How long did you wait?

It didn´t even take 2 minutes. I tried it a second time and again it worked like a charm. Maybe you have just bad luck. Try to spook it, so it runs in one direction, then leave the area and head back, chances are it will be stuck in th wall duo to its attempt to flee and because you left the area the wall will rendered after the hyaena, so it could be stuck there.

Sorry, that it didn´t work for you until now, just don´t give up ;)

I wanted to not destroy resource respawn when I built my outer base wall and gates just destroyed 'the view' outside. I put up a line of pillars and wood spikes with a few scattered gates for access instead. A nifty side effect is that all sorts of critters get caught in the wall and make for easy taming or meat collection. Since the pillars are 4-5 high even flyers get caught up in it. Maybe a variation of this might allow the creation of a better taming pen.

Definitelly it does not work for me. Hyaenodon moves in cage without stucking. I had to catch another one, build another pen and I finally tamed him - H. made several rounds in pen and then it just stayed at edge staring to where his pack leader was (away enough to taming be possible).

I was able to tame a small pack of them relatively easily (after some initial frustration). Here was how I did it (this was not originally my method but I have forgotten where I found it, sorry).

I made TWO pens and placed the alpha in one pen and all the other pack members into the other pen. The pens need to be close enough together so that the alpha retains it's alpha status but far enough apart that you can pet the other packmates. Once this was set up I left render distance to let them all calm down and then I came back, careful not to spook them again, and went into the cage with the packmates. They let me pet them and didn't try to flee or attack; they didn't even move so it was really easy to tame them (once everything was set up).

That said, I haven't tried to repeat the process so it's possible that what I experienced was not the norm. I hope this helps. Good luck everyone! :)

Edit: Also, technically, the alpha is also tameable once you've tamed all of it's packmates but I was unable to do it. It would attack the cage every time I tried to pet it and was really hard to calm down. I tried taming it outside the cage but I spooked it and it ran and I gave up the chase.

That's the easiest way, i can confirm it.

But i came across to another problem, i found a lvl 120 (max lvl for my non-ded server) and its kind of impossible to tame, because i have to find another lvl 120 so one of them can become the alpha and THEN i'll be able to tame a lvl 120. And well, its being a hell of a journey to find another lvl 120, considering i'm most of the time playing alone or with my gf.

I think it could be good if you can actually pet the alpha like the beta ones maybe after you tame the entire pack? Or just make the max level possible hyena be tameable without another alpha nearby? Idk, maybe im just expressing my frustration :(
