How to use dino command groups
I never use the (newish*) dino command group because I don't know how to work it. I know it would be useful so I can press "J" and only take my exploring dinos with me, but I too scared to touch anything. The web don't really say much of anything about dino groups.

*I never heard about dino groups before I stopped playing Ark for a bit, so I'm guessing they added it after I stopped playing

Hi Bladeseeker,

You can put specific tames or a class of dino's to a group that will respond to your whistles.

Press I -> go to the 4th icon from the left in the middle top (tame groups)

The groups have default names: group 1, group 2 etc, you can rename them

Say I want all my raptors to follow me and 'attack my target':

- press I -> tame groups
- rename group 1 -> Raptors
- go to raptor, press and hold E
- from the radial select 'modify ordering groups'
- select 'add class to group 'Raptors'
- press 'I' -> the tame groups interface, select group 'Raptors', press the 'set as active group' icon
- whistle follow
- whistle 'attack my target'
...only your raptors would do!

You can add individual tames to groups too, instead of the class. You can change to another group or de-activate any group.

There are shortcuts on windows that do not work on linux (where I am) involving numpad keys.

Maybe someone can complement and explain how to do the shortcuts on windows
All the number keys on the number pad do is toggle on or off what whistle group you want, I often just leave the names Group 1, Group 2, etc so it is easy to remember what button on the num pad is for what group. If you rename them, you will have to remember which number is Raptors or which number is your Dilo Swarm.
I played with the dino groups a bit while ingame with the radial wheel and the numpad; I guess I was just too scared to try them! But thank y'all for telling me about renaming the groups. I didn't even know abouit the "tame group" area in the inventory menu. Again, thanks.

For anyone (playing on PC) who started playing this recently and looked this up: what Carthien says works but after making the group (like "1: Carnivores" for the FIRST GROUP IN THE LIST). Press the Correct number on your num pad (such as '1') before whistling a command like follow or attack target. Otherwise all dino's will do what you say, not the group you want to command.

You can also set any Dino specific to ignore group whistles. Meaning they will not respond until this is enabled again. Handy for controlling specific Dino's without removing them from the group.

This is tangentially related, but may be helpful to some. If on windows and not a full size keyboard (A keyboard without a numpad). A good practice is to remap scroll lock to num lock. These days scroll lock has very little functionality in most programs and is left on keyboards as a legacy key. So it tends to be a good extra key that you can make behave as whatever key you like with rarely any ill effects.

As for remapping itself you'll want to look up how to do that correctly based on what keyboard you have (anything that's like RGB standoff mechanical typically has management software to do that sort of stuff with).

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
