Hyaenodon taming?
Okay, do any of you guys know a good strategy for taming a hyaenodon? I still can't seem to find one. The wiki's (since removed) one of grabbing it with a kapro doesn't work for me, the dog still spooks and I can't tame it while it's "fleeing" in the kapro's jaws. And yes, I'm crouched in a ghillie while attempting this.

Most people seem to build a pen and drop one in with the argy. That's the best I could suggest you do, you also have to let it calm down when it flees and coming up behind it tends to help keep it from getting spooked quickly. I don't see how holding it with a kapro would work at all just cause well...it's in the jaws of a kapro I'd stay freaked out too if that was me XD

I tried that before, but perhaps it needs to be a fence foundation pen and not one with a floor? Hmm. Hyaenodon kept spooking for me in the one with a floor XD I guess I'll just have to keep trying and see lol.
Yeah, I read that like "...and how is this gonna help??" but it was on the wiki so I figured it might just be some weird game logic lol. But I think it got removed from the wiki and it definitely doesn't seem to work XD

Wild Hyaenodons travel in groups up to 6. Their pack number determines which prey they will attack. If they believe they will win the battle they will attack.

If they feel outnumbered, the will run the other way.

The Alpha in a pack of Hyaenodon will refuse to be tamed.

While not rideable, the Hyaenodon can wear a saddlebag.

The saddlebag has the ability to efficiently preserve meat (increases spoil timer) and give the Hyaenodon extra amour.
They have the ability to recover health quicker when consuming corpses.

You can Pet your tamed pup to give it a damage output and resistance buff! It's adorable!

try 2 boxes of dino gates or behemoths wichever you like.

box 1 - the pack leader (flame on the back)
box 2 - The other hyenas

Make sure the boxes are not too far from each other (you will see: pack leader is too far away)
nor too close (pack leader is nearby)

then make sure you wear ghillie
I saw a guy on youtube put bug repellant on but i don't see the point.

Then pet them until tamed.

That works? i was able to get 1 by its self idk how i guess the others got eatn and he was alone, i tried to box it in granted very small box and it started attacking, someone suggested bigger window box setup might work no walls so it thinks its free still?

Also some silly person said tame the alpha....

if u are on a pve server u may have to result to using a horse and a lasso,if you can use them on pve (haven't played pve in a while), to round em up into the pens

Ah, thank you so much! This helps a lot! And thank you so much to all the other commentators, I think I have a better idea of what I'm doing now!

You can find "broken" ones that don't move on SE (maybe other maps as well?). Mine was the alpha. I killed pack, walked up behind it and petted. 140 female. However the ♥♥♥♥♥ remained "broken" and would not move. Not on follow, wander, whip, etc. I even attempted to knock it out to reset AI. The fix for a "broken" hyaenodon is to transfer it to another server. This resets AI and allows it to be a normal hyaenodon once again. Good luck! :)

build 2 pens close to each other, like 4-5 foundations away. drop alpha at one and another high level at the other. make sure there is no hyennas nearby, because couple of them outside the pen can cause aggro in the one you're trying to tame. wear a guillie suit, crouch and touch his butt as soon the timer goes off.

its ez, just really boring.

may be able to grapple them with a crossbow and grappling hook, used to be able to do that for the easter event last year on the bunny dodos and bunny oviraptors(not sure if the hyenas would be small enough for it tho)

I found a pretty easy way that at least works in single player so someone will have to test it in other servers. The biggest problem I think is that there's a glitch that causes the "pet" option to stop showing up from a safe distance and so you scare them by getting too close in order for it to show up. I boxed one in using stone gateways. Make sure you have a poop with you. After making your initial pet back off and count to 30. Drop the poop behind the dog (you do not have to be right up to them) and pick it back up. Move towards the dog and the "pet" option should show up before you get too close and scare him. I'm not sure why this works but I have yet to have a dog run off on me while doing this.

I don't know why you had to necro threads to answer each one with the same reply
