Can dung beetles and snails escape from cages?
I know they can glitch out from traps made of walls, but can they escape the actual wooden cage item?

i had one pen they could not escape. it was even half in a stone. i dont know why they kept inside. i was saddled on floating island and due to the flyer nerf i decided to move to lavaisland (maybe they just dont escape when the pen is on floating island). i found a flat part and made a new pen for my dung beetles. even bigger. i made not just one wall. its a true prison! dont care how many walls you build. they always escape. they do it since the beginning.

in the latest update they wanted to fix bugs.
i know they cant fix all bugs in one patch, so i still hope.
but they still escape and kapros and purlovia fall through ceilings. always !!!
if someone knows how to make it right. i would be happy too xD

I usually have mine in at least a 3x3 pen, depending on how many I have. Often my pen is larger because the snails seem to love lots of room to roam. Never had one glitch through the walls, had one fall through the floor into my workshop occasionally but not the walls.

Anything on wander can potentially escape an enclosure. It's because the game renders in the critters before it renders in the structures. It's the same reason that anything on wander can fall through ceilings sometimes.

They do not escape from the Tek Vacuum Compartment.
All land dinos on wander do not move at all when underwater in a Vacuum Compartment but that does make a costly box for them.

Cages are the best option. I have like 10 dung beetles all in diff cages, next to walls, and none of them escaped.

No they do not escape cages if enclosed correctly.

I have had beetles for most of my play time and never lost one, snails since they came out, never lost them.

A long time ago when I learnt how to make an enclosure for them I was told that the absolute critical rule is that hard up behind the cage must be a wall and I have never deviated from that rule.

So place a cage, on foundations, normal ground or ceiling on pillar, makes no difference. Directly behind that cage is a wall, 2 high. Wall can be snapped to fence foundations, normal foundation or ceiling, doesn't matter as long as cage is in direct contant with it.

That's it.

Yeah, I always found it weird that critters render first. The first time I figured this out was when I saw an alpha raptor in the distance, so I took my sniper and fired over 100 bullets at it. For some reason, it never aggro, nor did it ever took damage. I was like, wtf? So I decided to walk closer to see if that would help...and suddenly a giant rock rendered in. Needless to say...I was not amused.

I have about 20 snails in cages and they go nowhere.
I've had beetles slip through walls, and back when I was a newbie and hadn't figured out the load-down trick, oviraptors. However, I've had beetles and snails on wander for hundreds of hours without ever slipping through walls *IF* those walls were on fence foundations, not regular foundations, and the creatures were on bare ground. Never, not once. Much easier to work with than cages.

In fact on my last server I had my entire, very large yard in the Redwood Biome on the Center, and within it on wander, a pack of raptors, a pack of dire wolves, several moschops, several mesopithecus, and dung beetles and snails, and not once did any one of them get out -- except for once when I found I had a gap in the wall. Other players on the same servers have used the same technique without problem. The trick seems to be if the creature is on bare ground or not. On bare ground it never slips through walls around it.

Yes because creatures and eggs load before structures do.

"There is no wall"
Cages do indeed work. as long as the backs against the wall and they are fully in(AKA not stuck in the door)they will not escape. I believe cages are ment to load faster then other building parts to prevent people from escaping them hence why they work so well on beetles.

Everytime I tried to put a beetle in a cage it got out within an hour or two. The only thing that works for is to take a 5x5 foundation structure and remove the middle 3x3 then put fence railings around the innder edge. Ever since I've started doing that I haven't had any issues.

Honestly though it seems like different things work for different people so just try different methods until you find one that works for you.
