I watched the thing for a minute before it poofed like batman is a dust cloud to the ground where it killed a deer and walked off.

Yeah, they sometimes spawn weird like that. I've even seen thwm sideways off the tree; super strong, those two legs. Of course, like so many things, they 'fixed' this in a patch not long after they Thyla originally released.

Wow...this has really become laughable. I nominate the thylacoleo as ARK's mascot!

Maybe only the spawning sideways was a bug. Prehaps this is their mating ritual where the males try to impress the females.
I mean we all know ark is really historically accurate *cough Giga Cough Dilo Cough Titanosaur*

(honesty i don't mind that Ark isn't realsitic, i just wish the giga and titan was a little smaller and killible...also that dilos couldn't blind Brontos by spitting at their feet)

lol, that's nothing. I was flying my quetz to the red peak to farm metal and I saw a thyla zipping through the trees like superman. I was so shocked that I just kinda froze and sat there for about 20 seconds watching this thing fly around and 1 shot pteras. best part is that it happened on official PVE XD
