Are boats a bad idea now?

I read that there was a passive dinosaur that is enraged by the very thought of rafts. I also read it comes in alpha flavors too... In my experience alphas of any kind are extremely dangerous... Am I in any way mistaken? What can I do to still build on boats? Are they still viable or ill advised at this point?

The fish is a leed, and they do not spawn as an alpha. Right now they only attack rafts, we are getting power boats, which I do not believe will count. Rafts also have a bad habit of being left all over maps and the leeds clean them up.

which is great because on a few servers i've played on, both official and un official, especially on the center, abandoned rafts are everywhere and stranded. so im glad there's a raft targeting torpedo that is the leed.

Well, in my case, I love rafts and tend to live on them, particularly on servers with raft mods or higher values for "platforms" and stuff. I was devestated when I learned that rafts had a mortal enemy now. o.e it seems so silly when I type it out.. mortal enemy? To a boat? Why! Well, I suppose it's the devs way of dropping down server load on official servers. I can understand that.

Well, in my case, I love rafts and tend to live on them, particularly on servers with raft mods or higher values for "platforms" and stuff. I was devestated when I learned that rafts had a mortal enemy now. o.e it seems so silly when I type it out.. mortal enemy? To a boat? Why! Just wait till the motor boars come out. You can build on them, and my thought is that the leed cannot destroy them, if they can, it's a motor boat, you should be able to outrun it.

They come in alpha versions too.. I saw them in the release notes. I would wager that while rare, would still be quite fast and powerful. I wonder if at some point we'll be able to tame alphas of our own. If left in the water in packs (whether alpha or not), would they be capable of defending the boat?

If you play on modded servers, as long as they have Advanced Rafts mod they shouldn't be targeted by the leeds. It was a fix they added to the mod last update, but only on the advanced rafts.

you can protect your raft from the leeds by doing the drop method on your foundations to cover your whole raft. one took a couple bites from my stone one and barely took 10% damage

If you want to be better, faster and stronger than a boat, bump up your oxy to 10k like me. Best feeling ever. You become the boat.

Perhaps, however the purpose of having a boat is to maintain structures that have the room for mass storage, crafting, and some dinosaurs. You can't take your birds with you in the water. You can however carry them on platforms.

The Leedsichthys ignores all sunken foundations and hits the raft itself.So this is not a viable option.

You should definitely check if any Leeds are in the area before taking your raft now.They are not the slow, safe transportation mode they used to be,and if too long from the shore, you won't have time to escape the leeds, and if they destroy the raft, all items in it will be lost.Dinos on the raft also occasionally get hit by the leeds and may get knocked off and/or killed, and if they survive megalodon and manta could finish them off.Avoid Leedsichtys when you can.

mine has survived 4 attacks now and not even got to 2/3 of it's health. Can you explain that?
No mods for raft or structure or for the leeds either. It's an almost vanilla server.
