Oh yeah Doom runs excellent on Vulkan, big difference.
It is easier just to blame someone else though.
mantle: is death. both, DX12 and Vulkan, have most of its code implemented.
Vulkan: sadly only a special snowflake that will vanish against Microsoft (it is better than DX12, but almost nobody supports it)
DX12: with your PC you will see no change between DX11 and DX12 (maybe it will work even worse since Nvidia has still problems with it and SLI/Crossfire does not work with DX12)
but even big multi million $ AAA-devs with direct support from MS fail at a DX12 implementation. it will take quite some time before devs can use this API the right way.
so you still think a small indi-studio without DX12-knowlege will implement it and gain 20% perf??
PS
there is currently only one game out there that runs fine with DX12: Sniper Elite 4.
dont forget Rise of the Tomb Raider... True eyecandy
Nope....
Take a fully optimized game like for example BF1 and compare DX11 / 12 there. Maybe its a 2-3 % performance boost....
The only application where you really see that difference is the benchmarks. But there isn't any game that has a boost of 10 -15%
So i don't give any .... on it anymore because it won't solve the performance problems.
100 ppl building whatever they want and throwing 500 dinos inside, there is no possible optimization to make it run smooth, simple like that. I cant understand how hard is to ppl realize that. What everyone loves about the game is exactly what makes it run poorly.
Only way to do that is downgrading graphics and animations, if devs do that for ppl gain 10 fps, is it worth it? It doesnt IMO.
However they have since updated the roadmap and the new one doesn't show what they are working on/planning to work on anymore so no one knows if they have carried on or actually started it.
If they added vulkan support to UE4 that would be half the job done but WC has modified the engine quite a lot so who knows how much extra work they would need to do to get it to work properly.
