Grisaia no Meikyuu or known as The Labyrinth of Grisaia in Englsih is developed by Frontwing and published onto steam in English by Sekai Project. Do note this is the sequel to The Fruit of Grisaia. It is strongly recommended to play the first game before starting this for obvious reasons… And the score on this will be exactly same as the score for Grisaia no Kajitsu.


I am very sure after completing the first game filled with obvious hints you would want to know what is Yūji Kazami past. Like what happened to him in the past? Where did he get all those skills and such that not many normal people have? What made him the Yūji Kazami we know and love? Well if you do have those questions in your mind this game will answer most of them by letting you read through the past of Yūji Kazami, which details Kazami’s life story leading up to him attending Mihama Academy. It was something that I wanted to get some more detail on, and this game definitely delivered.

It is incredibly detailed and you get to witness the events unfold beautifully which leads up to the first game of how he became a part of the “company” and how his life with his “master” Asako was how he met principal Tachibana, details about certain actions Yuuji has mentioned in the past, and even reveals some new information.

The story is a delicate mix of comedic slice-of-life, intense action and dramatic tragedies. The real tragedy here is the brutal cliffhanger ending which hints at Grisaia no Rakuen.

The afterstories provide a nice throwback to The Fruit of Grisaia with slice-of-life stories. They allow us to revisit the cast and get to “know them again” their quirky personalities. While also filling us up with more details of heroines specific routes. The afterstories last around 2 and a half hours [based on my reading speed], which is the perfect length so that the whole game can be emphasized more on Yuuji past rather than the 5 heroines that he met.

Last but not least, we have the short stories of different length and comedic value, showing us some extra tidbits about various characters and their personalities like Michiru tsundere side and many more.


Okay let’s get this straight this is a very sensitive topic which I am going to touch on and as off 7/21/2016 an R-18 version is not available for the English yet. In the event where an R-18 version is available everything here holds no value.

So lets start off by getting this out of my mind and I would say this first. The “main” route of this game [The Cocoon of Caprice] about yuuji past without the R-18 scene feels really odd… How odd it is? Very… Of course the R-18 scene is not a must and it obviously does not impact the story heavily at all, but it just does not feel “right” with me. As a person who have read the JP version of this [aka the version with R-18 content] I would say I am on the fence about this topic. A part of me is saying the R-18 content is not important and another part of me is saying this game is not in its prime with R-18 scene being replaced away as the R-18 scenes do hold some form of value.

Let’s take for example, by now I think you all would know that Yuuji handles woman very well and that is provably due to his sister, Kazuki and his master, Kusakabe Asako. It is no secret that incest was present at a very young age of Yuuji hence giving him some form of experience and of course his master Asako had a part to play too.

So with that said with the R-18 content being replaced / cut from the visual novel. This visual novel is not in its prime.

To sum up. I would definitely recommend this great title from Frontwing, Grisaia no Meikyuu isn’t a game to be missed, especially if you want to know the cast of the Grisaia series more in depth and Yuuji’s past. Though I highly suggest you to wait for an R-18 version to be available first for English.

Labirynth of Grisaia is an sequel essential for moving along further into story. Main reason is that we finally get complete picture of Kazami Yuiji. Looking fully into his past, there is a lot to it and every fan of first Grisaia will be happy with it. Game is quite different though, instead of big one main story everything here is divided into parts.

After stories for Mikihama Girls each 2-3 hours long. Bunch of extras. And the main dish Yuiji past for additional 20 hours. Also if you patch the game +18 scenes will be revealed not only in stories. Even an separate section for just short hentais. Quite worth patching.

As for the main thing characters are nicely developed Asako <3 and Julia are the main stars here beside Yuiji. And if that is not enough. Support cast is also fun from Military as I mentioned there is a lot to protagonist past. Music just like before. Images/CG's few new things but other than that, just more of a good old Grisaia. Despite being short and linear it’s still very good. There is no doubt that I will start Eden sequel soon enough to see how this jounrey ends.

Okay, now that wonderful experience is out of the way, let’s get into the game, shall we?


The Labyrinth of Grisaia is the second installment of the Grisaia series right after the previous game, The Fruit of Grisaia, and definitely has some important/fun things to do in it. Not only do you get small, but interesting after stories to all the endings in the previous game, you also get Yuiji’s entire past explained, which is the bulk of this game. Unfortunately, this game doesn’t offer any choices or decisions like in the first game but gives you hours of cool content. You also get a Short Story section which is just 30 mini-stories that have no relevance to the plot whatsoever. And lastly, you get a, no joke here, a Masturbation Station which is just an erotic group of stories/fantasies that I’m sure the fan base wanted in the game so Front Wing made it. But I’m not joking; it’s literally called a Masturbation Station! It’s around 4 sex stories with random characters from the series.


When it actually comes to the game itself, I wouldn’t mark it at a face value of $30.00, that’s just too much for truly nothing text. I know the first game does have a lot of Slice of Life moments with no relevance to the actual plot whatsoever, but unlike The Fruit of Grisaia, Labyrinth doesn’t seem to have that drive for you to actually read those little sections for the enjoyment of reading it. I just remember reading The Fruit of Grisaia for hours without getting bored but I just didn’t get the same feeling for Labyrinth. Nevertheless, the game was very entertaining. But when it comes down to it, you have two choices:

1) YOU EITHER WATCH THE ANIME AND MISS OUT ON THE EXTRA CONTENT WITH THE ENDING SCENES

2) BUY THE GAME FOR FULL-PRICE OFF DENPASOFT.COM AND PLAY THE GAME

No matter what you’re thinking of, it really comes down to this. I’ve watched both the anime and the visual novel, and they are literally the exact same thing. You get some extra scenes that the anime didn’t have in the visual novel, but for $30.00, it may seem better to spend it on other stuff. But if you’re thinking about buying the game, PLEASE just buy the unrated version off Denpasoft. I can’t stress this enough considering that a good portion of this game is literal H-scenes which Steam cuts in this version


So overall, I would recommend this game even though it may seem that I don’t in the review. I really love this show/series, and I personally found this installation very enjoyable and worth the money after finishing it. And even though I spent closer to 50+ hours on The Fruit of Grisaia, this game was fun. Just don’t expect to have choices or anything like the first and have alternate endings. This game is for Yuiji’s past and that’s all. The extra stuff is just filler so that the user doesn’t feel entirely ripped off for spending that much money on this. I can’t wait for the 3rd one to be released Unrated, and I can’t wait to see what Front Wing has in store for us!

overpriced? yep. did I still buy it? yep. am I gonna buy the Uncut version? yep. this will hold me over for now, absolutely love this series

Welcome, welcome, one and all. Now first thing's first, you should all be aware that this is the second of three games of the trilogy. So it goes without saying that you should play The Fruit Of Grisaia first, otherwise little here will make much sense.

The over-arching factors which seem to be splitting the community at the moment are price:length ratio and lack of an H-patch. Based on the fact that the first game had a 13 episode anime series based off it, whereas game 2 only had a double-length special, this did not come as a big surprise. That aside, I'm a rather large Grisaia fan, so I'm afraid I can't help you much if you're sitting on the fence because of this.

I've just finished the main route of the game, which details Kazami's life story leading up to his attending Mihama Academy. This incredibly detailed look into the past of the main character is something I so rarely see in Visual Novels, and the events which unfold show just how the sassy-yet-strong character we know and love came to be.

I've yet to play the afterstories, though I've no doubt that they'll live up to any expectations that the series provides.

My final verdict then would be this: if you want the H version and aren't too fussed about the rest, wait until that becomes available. Also, the price is considerable for an uncertain undertaking, but I'll stand by it being worth its value in quality if the quantity doesn't appeal. If like me though, you just wanted to dive right back in to the world and see what other stories they have to tell, then what are you waiting for?

This VN is the sequel to Fruit of Grisaia. If you haven't read Fruit of Grisaia, read that first because it's mandatory in order to understand what's going on. The Labyrinth of Grisaia is divided into three parts:

- The after stories for each of the 5 character routes. These were ok for the most part, except for Michiru's after story, which was excellent. Definitely read hers even if you skip all the others; it's hilarious, fun and very touching.
- Yuuji's backstory. This takes up about half of the VN's length, and is the main reason why you should buy it. You get to see how messed up Yuuji's past is, and where a lot of his motivations come from.
- A collection of non-canon short stories. Most of these are very silly and don't contribute in any way to the overall plot. A nice bonus, but not required reading.

If you enjoyed Fruit of Grisaia, definitely pick up Labyrinth.

Labyrinth is both a continuation and something of a beginning for the Grisaia series with no less than six separate storylines to be had. The first five of these are "after stories" for each of the five routes found in The Fruit of Grisaia. Basically short 2-3 hour stories that tell you more about how life continues on. All of these stories are positive in tone and are (mostly) free from the dark drama that was in the first game. In short, they are just some nice fun additions for people who liked a particular storyline in The Fruit of Grisaia and are interested in seeing more of it.

The sixth storyline found in Labyrinth, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast. It is here that the real meat of the game can be found. Labyrinth's main storyline, "The Cocoon of Caprice" (CoC) takes place around a year after Yuuji enrolled at Miihama Academy and presumably helped the five girls out with their assorted problems without getting romantically involved with any of them. Becoming accustomed to his new peaceful life, Yuuji seeks to advance in rank at his work and hopefully to be placed in a less dangerous position. As part of his efforts to get this advancement however, he has to have a meeting with JB and give her a thorough report on his personal experiences.

In other words... while The Fruit of Grisaia gave us the backstories of the five Miihama girls (Michiru, Yumiko, Sachi, Makina, Amane), The Labyrinth of Grisaia is all about Kazami Yuuji and what brought him to his present circumstances.

As one might expect from what we saw in the first game, Yuuji has a rather unpleasant backstory. What may not be expected is just how dark it really is. Put simply, it is one of the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up backstories I have seen for any character. And yet it is not all doom and gloom, since you see both his descent into an abyss of horror and him slowly crawling out of it through the assistance of friends, comrades, and mentors. You are able to see him develop into the person that we first met in The Fruit of Grisaia, and everything that brought him to that point.

While I did like the various "after stories" (with Sachi's, Michiru's, and Makina's being particular stand-outs), CoC blows them all away. It easily is not only my favorite storyline in Labyrinth of Grisaia, but possibly the whole series up to this point. As for characters, this was mostly a story about Yuuji and the people in his life prior to transferring to Miihama Academy, so you actually don't see the five Miihama girls very much in CoC. Kazuki is a major presence early on and is as awesome here as she was in Amane's storyline in the first game. JB is quite entertaining as well as she is forced to clean up after other people's insanity. But the real stand-out character in CoC is Yuuji's "master" Kusakabe Asako, whose presence in the story and influence upon Yuuji is colossal - though perhaps not entirely for the better. Nevertheless, Asako pretty much steals every scene she is in. Add these characters to the minor characters that crop up, such as the "Bush Dog Platoon" and CoC has no shortage of interesting and likeable characters. Well... then there's Heath Oslo, who might be interesting but certainly is not likeable at all.

Obviously I really liked Labyrinth of Grisaia. I'm not sure if I liked it more than Fruit, but they certainly are of a similar quality as far as I am concerned. I am very much eager to see how the third entry of the trilogy, Eden, holds up... especially after how Labyrinth ultimately ended. It certainly promises a dark and intense conclusion to what has been, so far, an excellent VN series.

After actual years of waiting the english translation of Labyrinth is finally here!

The length doesn't nearly approach The Fruit of Grisaia but if you're a die hard Grisaia fan like I am that shouldn't matter to you. I'm just exceedingly happy to get more time to explore the stories of the captivatingly charming cast that is Yumiko, Amane, Makina, Sachi, and Michiru.

... and now the wait for Eden of Grisaia begins

The afterstories provide a nice throwback to The Fruit of Grisaia with generally fluffy slice-of-life stories. They allow us to revisit the cast and refamiliarise ourselves with their personalities. The afterstories clock in at roughly 2h a piece, which feels like a good length for that bit of extra time we want to spend with our chosen girls.

The most interesting part, of course, is the Grand Route. Or really, the first half of it. The second half is provided by The Eden of Grisaia. The timeline of Labyrinth is split of from Fruit sometime in July, and we and the Mihama Academy girls get to know more about Yuuji's past, how he became a part of the "company" and how his life with his "master" Asako was. The story is a delicate mix of comedic slice-of-life, intense action and dramatic tragedies. The real tragedy here is the brutal cliffhanger ending though. Eden can't come out fast enough.

Last but not least, we have the non-canon side stories of varying length and general comedic value, showing us some extra tidbits about various characters and their personalities.

The total reading time for the afterstories and the Grand Route amounted to roughly 25h for me (and I count myself as a rather quick reader). Multiple reviews mention that Labyrinth is "too short for the price", but I don't believe that at all. It may seem short in comparison to The Fruit of Grisaia, with its 40h+ reading time, but I'd rather say that Fruit was underpriced instead of saying Labyrinth is overpriced. Licencing the game and voices isn't cheap and a ton of work went into the translation. In my opinion, it is well worth its price.

The game asks you on the main menu what stories you want to see kind of like Majikoi S does. There are 3 major choices: Seeing the individual afterstories for the five good endings from Fruit of the Grisaia, watching a set of classing sketch comedy scenes like the common route of the first game, or choosing a route that will tell you the details of Yuuji's past.

This game is definitely a great successor to the first game. The afterstories are great, and I'm reasonably certain you'll enjoy them no matter which girl's story you liked in the previous game (I even felt Makina's afterstory made up for some of the problems I had with her route in the first game).

Yuuji's past, about which we obviously got some pretty obvious hints in the first game, was really something that I wanted to get some more detail on, and this game definitely delivered. The route gives details about things like how he met principal Tachibana, details about certain actions Yuuji has mentioned in the past, and even reveals some new information that I hadn't pieced together yet.

So far I've seen all the afterstories, most of Yuuji's route, and a couple of the few dozen standalone skits. I've clocked in 20 hours on this game just from that which I think makes it worth the price. Sure, I got 60 hours out of Fruit of the Grisaia when I bought it on steam to play again, but just because this game is shorter for a similar price doesn't mean this game isn't worth your time; if you enjoyed the first game, this one is a great way to either view more of your favorite routes, learn some new details about the protagonist, or even just give you your Grisaia fix until the series is finally finished getting translated.
