This is Tasty Planet
Quite a few years ago a game was released on PC called Tasty Planet, it had a good concept where your a gray goo designed to be a bathroom cleaner you break free from your captivity and start eating everything from the cellular stage up. But it becomes repetitive with more levels than needed, the soundtrack was relevant to elevator music with only a handful of songs. Some time later a company by the name of Dingo Games produced tasty planet 2. on Popcap, It was more of the same concept except the grey goo ends up eating a time machine and each "world" is you going back in time doing pretty much the same thing. The work put into the game however noticably diminishes with repetition in the 2nd world and few levels near the end.
And now they've gone and brought tasty planet to steam, but with an oceanic twist, I can only guess how this will turn out but it will probably end in the same circumstance. At least from what I saw in the trailer they're trying some new design concepts, but the sound assets are apparently the same either way. I only know this because I followed the title from it's original predecessor 10 years ago

I preferred tasty planet to be honest, the space part was my favourite bit, and there's only a little bit of that in this game :(

Seems to me they're just trying to reach a new audience. I played Tasty Planet years ago as well, but had forgotten about it. This game was gifted to me so I went into it with zero expectations, and it was actually an enjoyable and funny game. Repetitive? Yeah, but the levels last 2-3 minutes each, and if you play in short bursts it doesn't feel old. The music and sound effects are ridiculous but it matches the tone of the game. It's cheap, so why be so bothered by it?
