Players were banned from the official HOI4 Discord for using a photo of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Türkiye, as their avatar. The moderators' justification: he is "controversial," in the same way Karl Marx is.

Atatürk is in this very game as Türkiye's leader. The in-game portrait is allowed. Only the real photo is "dangerous." That's not a rule, that's an excuse.

It gets worse: reportedly, complaints were deleted, players who objected were banned, and the server was locked to new members. That is not moderation. That is hiding from your own customers.

Our demands:
A public apology to the Turkish community
Every related ban lifted
Real photos of Atatürk allowed as avatars
The moderator responsible removed from their position
An official statement from Paradox
Until then, no more Paradox purchases. Turkish players are not going away.

An individual was banned from the Hearts of Iron discord for a compromised (Hacked) account.
During the ban appeal process, a member of the hearts of iron team asked them to remove Ataturk from their profile so they could be let back in.

As a response, the Turkish Community took offense, And so many Paradox servers, including community run ones are getting raided.

This unfortunately also means peoples private but publicly accessible accounts, such as linkdin, email, twitter, etc have been targted with doxxing/harrasment, which I do not condone. And why we're banning raids as they pop up.
