Portugal and Castile

In EU4 the two nations were historic allies; in the saves I've had Castile always takes over Portugal.

In 1.4 beta yes, it is very likely Castile conquers both Aragon and Portugal. Maybe they get friendlier with upcoming Across the Pillars DLC as it should include more events for all the Iberian countries.

In real life continous existence of Portugal was not an effect of magical power of friendship. They simply kicked Castilian butt so hard that Spaniards felt it for next 2 hundred years (Battle of Aljubarrota, 1385).

The start date is set 100 years earlier. You can't expect the same scripted events from EU4 to play out.

The franchise is based on historical facts, but it isn't a history simulation. Once you unpause the game, anything can happen...
