1.4 is the best update yet
Hey yo,

I honestly don't get all the hate for this update. The game has been running buttery smooth for me since the last patch, and I really appreciate all the new additions.

It finally feels fresh again and, more importantly, much more like an actual EU game instead of the weird CK/Vic impersonation we had before.

Just let them cook. 🔥
Keep up the great job!

I dunno having malaria in 1400 italy wiping out all your levies each war, sounds like it certainly can't be "the best"
Daily ticks are bad. Hourly ticks are better. Nice bait thread. They're not cooking, they're serving you spoiled meat.
only in paradox games do you see x update is thw worst *and* the best right next to eachother.

anyway, hourly ticks were a bad idea. daily ticks worked fine in EU4. i didnt care that the battles lasted for months instead of days. provinces were pretty large, it could easily just represent an entire campaign in that location, represented by a single battle.

there, just destroyed any reason to ever have hourly ticks.

There is absolutely nothing good about these tiresome hourly ticks. You are just trolling your 120h campaigns with literally doing nothing. Just stop spamming the forums with nonsensical rage bait

Have you heard of immersion? Battles would take hours to a week. Now the same battles take months. Immersion has been killed off so a tiny minority of players can finish their entire campaign (that 99% don't even complete) 19 minutes faster than before. This is in a campaign that will take 30+ hours to complete unless you're playing constantly on 5 speed and have no sense of immersion or playing for fun.

so... exactly how it was in the previous *four* EU games. your point?

No they dont. My battles last for like 10 days at most, so do the battles of every streamer i have seen testing out 1.4.

This, these folk are newcomers to paradox titles, still they want to force their RTS ♥♥♥♥ ideas into a grand strategy game that spams 500 years lmao

LOL if you think there is "nothing" to do, you clearly don't understand game mechanics or decide to ignore them and play with this sweet ignorance. :D

nothing refering to hourly ticks, so you're so busy you're pausing every few in game hours? The only mechanic that worked on hourly ticks was combat and really the difference is minimal. Except the pacing has improved.

I think I understand the game perfectly fine, which game mechanics exactly. If you're going to complain, be specific.

Reinforcements, morale management, tactical retreating, morale damage in reserves minimalization - just serveral examples.

To squeeze as much as you can from combat you need to send small parts of army to fight every several ticks. That makes your "reserves" not take morale damage. If you send all the army at once, forces in reserves take morale damage and can retreat even before reaching a field of battle. If ticks are "huge", you cannot do it in an effective way. Same with tactical retreat to regenerate morale. If you play this way effectively you can retreat part of your army, make it regain morale and rejoin the battle before it ends (this is only possible with very large lategame battles, but still).

Anyway changes in ticks (small amount of long ticks representing long period of time) it is impossible to retreat in a correct moment. It is also hard to properly time your reinforcements. Not mentionning sending proper type of reinforcements to proper place (eg. if your wing is about to break).

With daily ticks you can basically only watch which blob wins. Any kind of micromanagement or optimisation is futile.

EDIT: I completely understand that there are people who don't want to play like that. But there are people who want it and take pleasure from beating 40k army with small 5k stack. I think you should not make this kind of gameplay impossible because you want max speed to be 10% faster.

In other words, combat, the one I already mentioned. The least important part of the game.

In other words this change fixed an exploit? good.

Or you can do what armies did historically: flee from enemies you can't beat, and win the war on strategy instead of tactics. historically most of warfare is sieges for a reason.
