Broken England
Game is now unplayable, England always DESTROYS France in a ridiculous amount of time. Whatever I do, it's not worth since England has everything in the first century of the game, so I'm against a stupid strong England. I played the beta, it wasn't that bad but I've started 3 new games since release and each time in the first century France is reduced to about 15 locations and England wins all.

Oh, its not England that is broken, its the HYW that is a broken event and its unlikely they will ever find the proper balance to develope a version where England and France win or lose to 50% on average. Its likely going to be one version where France is too strong, then one version where England is too strong, maybe two versions after its France again and so on. Thats the problem with trying to simulate historical events but still have sandbox outcomes.
I mean I wouldn't want a 50/50% chance outcome. I want an outcome that makes sense : none of them annihilates the other. Maybe a very small chance that one of them wins as much as I have seen (and it would not be that bad if it were always the same, since it would not happen most games). The problem is not that one of them wins, it's that if I want to play something like Holland, I will have England sooner or later going after me, being strong as full England AND France united against me. I can't prepare for that it's unwinneable so my campains just end before eu4's starting date.

That is likely going to be a problem for a very long time. The only thing i can suggest is to either desperately try to ally England at some point to not get attacked and or rush yourself into a somwhat favourable position with a lot of alliances and hope that Bohemia is emperor to defend you.
They have to make France bad before its own DLC is released in a few months and it becomes overpowered again !

maybe they just are already working on france overhaul right now and added a bit in 1.4 that made it worse or other way around they work on england.

or an neither of those but on AI using transportships.

but yea, i bet Trump paid paradox tax money to screw with frances. sounds cooler.
Yeah, try England and see how it isn't overpowered. It's that whoever you aren't in the HYW is overpowered.
Nothing wrong with England vs France in 1.4. They battle it out over the century and I have never seen one side completely destroyed.
my first campain 1.4 england beat france massivle. but 1506 frace still has its capital and 180 places. england 280.

but spain took 20 places in the south, so france had a hard time.

i also play brandenburg and made france lose menpower quite a bit a few times - but hey, hey decided to fight HRE.... misstakes were made.
i cant even tell who is winning it seems to jojo alot in my 2games. like england take a huge part of France and the next way he takes it all back

in my last game Aragon and i (Austria) took most of france, Aragon started so i went for a piece when france was week but still mostly winning vs england

it comes down to what you take.

if you take france low control places, you make france stronger, as they will have more money. (less cost of court ++)

if you want to damage a country, take high control places or places that connects ofter places (longer roads after the war)

make it lose control not places with its color
Turns out 1337 is the worst start year you could choose for a historical simulation game. The community was saying this before the game even came out.

This is an example of the early game being disproportionately hard vs the late game. And it's not 1337 thats the problem its that the difficulty is concentrated in the beginning. Once you recover from whatever blow you start to snowball real fast. I can understand if it took skill to snowball but in general most people snowball with very little effort because you can just automate it. Maybe they should focus less on automation at this point and more on event difficulty. And making sure the early game is easier and later game is a bit more challenging unless you min max everything.
