Huge fan of EU4...is EU5 worth getting?
As the title says. Huge fan of EU4, played a ton. Was wondering if EU5 is worth getting in its current state, or even worth getting at all.

Nope, this game is nothing like EU4, you will not enjoy it at all.
Consider buying it three years from now, by then hopefully the bugs will be fixed, the game finished and Johan replaced.
Check some vids and maybe get it and refund before the 2h wether it gonna be complicated in only 2h to get an idea

Personally, I like both, even though the latter still needs quite a bit of work.
You cant Compare EU IV and EU V honestly..... So nobody can truely help you by deciding if you like it or not. (Bugs and such ofc are a thing with Paradox Games aswell, espacialy so "soon" after release but i am the Kind of Person, as long as they dont spoil my fun i dont care about them, and so far they dont really do)

Best you could do would go and Check Gameplay Vides aswell as some Tutorials, so that you get a better insight on the Mechanics of the Game, to judge foryourself if it could be to your liking.

EU5 is not like EU4, it is mostly related to Vic3 and IR. If you liked EU4 a lot, you probably will not enjoy EU5.

Just let it be for now, 2-3 years perhaps and after that check again.
In my opinion, this is the most complex game currently on the market. It has plenty of bugs and a very steep learning curve; you need hundreds of hours just to begin grasping how everything fits together. If that’s the kind of thing you’re looking for, then congratulations—you’ve found it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who isn't looking for a "click-click-win" experience and can actually enjoy the occasional failure. Taste is subjective, of course, but for me, it is by far the best game out there right now. Furthermore, I hope—and believe—that the rather massive bugs and inconsistencies will be fixed "soon™."

Automate everything and hit unpause. Answer any popups that appear. There is nothing complex about that.
They took everything great about EU4 and removed it. They went back to the slider system of EU3 which no one liked. They tried to introduce markets like VIchy 3 had. THey introduced penalties to any nation that actually dares to make a profit by simply taxing them so they don't make more money. They shifted to a population based game so larger countries are dominant and smaller ones stand no chance. They removed everything that made playing different nations different. There are no more ideas you can use to customize your nation.

So if you are looking for a simpler system with completely broken revolutionary age, markets that are overly complex but don't help you to get the resources you want, colonies who don't actually help you, and a system that doesn't reward you for managing your economy efficiently. Then get EU5
Can you define a bit more what you like?

It is not an easy match tbg. if you liked historicity and nation flavor, you are out of luck. If you like the (idea) of a very complex system, a mix of CK-EU-VIc, then yes

I have a total of 60 hours in EU5 and I don't see the complexity. I learned the game much, much faster than I did EU4. The systems in isolation are complicated, but there's no "three dimensional complexity" that makes them interact with each other like EU4 had. And what complexity there is, will probably not be fun to engage with for most players. Micromanaging every single RGO and building is a chore unless you are playing tall with very limited territory, and I cannot imagine any player ever is willing to redo trade every month in the long run. So you just hit automate on that stuff. You may as well also hit automate on like half the sliders. And then you find that what's left of the game that would normally be fun to engage with, such as army building, wars, diplomacy, and technology, is actually quite shallow. And full of arbitrary roadblocks to slow it all down, too.

Thats like saying "Oh yeah go into Observe mode and take over AI Nation 1 Day before the Game ends".... If you dont wanna play the Game than dont. But dont try to make "Oh there is Automation so that People dont need to bother with one or two Game Mechanics they dont like" into an Argument, if you simply missuse or abuse the System xD
Everyone already said their piece, just wanted to share mine. As someone who enjoyed EU4 and CK2, both became unplayable as eventually you'd have Catholic crusades be overwhelmingly powerful and EU4 had its share of problems when playing Ottomans despite me having bought a DLC to expand their function. EU5 has its ups and downs, but sadly for all its positives it's also got setbacks like only one timeline to pick up, Lithuania being unplayable due to how it gets bombarded by Teutons from get go, and overcomplicated the things are like building, trade, levies. It used to be easier but now it's way more difficult than it used to be.

On positives at least we're sold a full game without any parts of it sold as DLCs later, the music is a banger, and it's an okay mix with EU4 and CK2 character system, albeit also with its share of issues with how CK2 had it more easier done. I haven't tried Paradox' RETVRN DLC yet, so can't comment on it
average negative opinion: "The game is unfinished and not fun, don't buy it."
average positive opinion: "The game is not there yet but it is getting better and better, just two more patches and it will be the best strategy game ever in the history of mankind."
I think its the best paradox grand strategy game yet
its pretty awful compared to eu4 , and idk why people call it complex its really not very complex but its not really fun either

"Average negative opinion"

The same 10–15 masochists who spend several minutes every day saying the game is ♥♥♥♥.
There aren't even 100 unique people on the Steam forum in a given week, so we see you :)
Honestly, if your lives weren't so pathetic, you'd have something better to do.

There’s nothing wrong with disliking the game, but constantly showing up to say it sucks and isn't fun—without offering any actual arguments—is ridiculous; you need to grow up a bit. Post your negative review and move on to another game, or go touch some grass, as some would say.
