If it's an amazing 2 hours who cares?

What kind of person values video games based on length, and not their actual quality?

Do you even like walking simulators? Because, in general, they are all short and all about $20

To you? None of them.

Vote with your wallets. I find the value proposition here very bad and I feel no regrets skipping this one.

Those 20 bucks could be used better on Slime Rancher, Pyre or Sonic Mania for example.

I agree, a game for me is not just about price, it's about what you get. At the same time there are some fantastic games that cost a lot less per hour, I rather spend my pounds on those.

Gone Home (from the same company) has about the same length, and the same price. It was priced for $5 sales, which will probably happen for Tacoma as well, so if you feel $20 is too much, you can simply buy it later when it's discounted.

No wonder any review mentions that, everybody got paid. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gaming journalism is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ these days. Play and refund the game, people.

Half of the Steam user reviews do mention that.
The Steam store page says: "Tacoma is estimated to take around 2 to 5 hours to complete. How deep you dig and how much detail you find is up to you."

For gaming journalism, I'm looking at the 29 reviews listed on metacritic right now, 15 of which do mention the game's length.
  • gamegrin: Looking for every single story element, you’re looking at about five hours of gameplay. If you decided to rush through, it would be about half that.
  • godisageek: -
  • nzgamer: -
  • darkstation: Tacoma takes a couple neat twists that kept me involved through the length of its 2 ½ hour story.
  • destructoid: Let's get something out of the way first. Tacoma only takes a few hours to finish. It's not a long game, even if you're intent on leaving no part of the station unturned
  • financial post: few hours (I won’t soon forget the way lots of little clues discovered over the first few hours gratifyingly come together in the final few minutes)
  • IGn Spain: -
  • criticalhit: should take you anywhere from 3 hours or more to finish.
  • IGN USA: short playtime of three to four hours.
  • PC Gamer: -
  • gameinfomer: -
  • Atomix: 2 hours (La nueva obra de Fullbright puede ser completada sin problemas y viendo prácticamente todo lo que tiene que ofrecer en un lapso cercano a las dos horas.)
  • digitalchumps: When I first finished Tacoma, I was taken aback by its three hour runtime.
  • gamespew: -
  • twinfinite: Unfortunately, despite being in this fantastic environment with a riveting story that kept me hooked throughout its three-hour duration, technical issues hindered Tacoma from realizing its true potential.
  • gamesradar: It feels like Tacoma began its life intending to tell one kind of story then morphed into another, which leads to a sense that it's biting off more than it can chew in the brief five-or-so hours that it lasts.
  • The Guardian: Over the course of about three hours, your investigative journey through Tacoma has you rooting for these characters by the time their story concludes.
  • Slant: - (Tacoma raises heady topics during its short playtime)
  • trusted reviews: surprisingly short / brief runtime / Fullbright has failed to craft an overarching narrative that capitalises upon the crew of Tacoma to which I spent several hours growing close.
  • usgamer: Tacoma is a short and sweet two-to-three hours long, depending on how investigative you are.
  • gamespot: - (About the Author: Kallie Plagge. Kallie finished Tacoma in five hours and watched all the crew recordings. She also played a round of zero-gravity basketball and spent some time searching for Easter eggs.)
  • Polygon: -
  • Metro: -
  • wegotthiscovered: - (a curious little project)
  • eurogamer: - (As tales of survival go it's perhaps a little too short and sweet)
  • Kotaku: Late game twists bring some of these issues into focus, but the rest of the two to four hour experience opts to use the issues as set dressing, dropping the ball on opportunities for insightful commentary.
  • Rock Paper Shotgun (Philippa Warr): -
  • avclub: -
  • waypoint: There's precious little you have to actually do in Tacoma—you could probably finish the game in 20 minutes if you literally went from point A to point B—so the meat of the game becomes how long you want to spend deciphering conversational puzzles. / I'll confess to feeling a little disappointed when the story was over, after a little under four hours of poking around.

@tommy_beast: if you have any integrity, you'll concede that you were wrong, admit you never had any proof for your assertions, and apologize for misleading us.

The gamespot review's author's note suggests to me that some reviewers simply do not know how long an average playthrough would take: if you get interrupted during the playthrough, take time setting up screenshots etc., or simply explore the game to an unusual degree, you can't in good conscience estimate how much time an average player would spend. The same goes for a re-playing of the game, since you won't need to think about the puzzles or explore as much.

After Gone Home are there still people surprised by Fullbright?
Jeez

I am 112 minutes into the game at the moment.
Just finished the first section.
I guess it will take me about 4 hours.

Great fun so far.

Funny conspiracy theories about paying of reviews.

But to everyone their own. :) I like it so far.
Well done experience.
