Shogun 2 Doesn't Launch
I have recently purchased Shogun 2 Total War and whenever I try to start the game it starts to load up and closes down, without going into a loading screen or giving e an error. I've tried updating just about everything, I've verified the integrity of the game cache and I've deleted any files that might need deleting, but nothing has worked? Does anybody have a solution for this?

Shogun 2 is infamous for conflicting with all kinds of PCs. There are many bugs that can prevent the game from running, but there are a number of fixes for these. The easiest are:

Updaiting your local content by right clicking on the game title and going into properties on the steam games page

Buying Rise or Fall of the Samurai, which both have patches for hardware conflicts (I know, this is a slap in the face to the consumer, but this fixed my issue when nothing else would)

Checking compatibility with your specific build on the Creative Assembly Forum

Good luck, with a little research, most people are able to solve these issues through various PC updates.

go to your game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data) and get rid of all the files that have the word "patch" in it. so any files that say "patch.pack" (extension .pack). This may seem over drastic but iv had the same issue and this fixed it. I forgot where i found this fix but it works. I just posted this on another topic, but its a wide spread problem. crash at spash screen ect.

All, I saw a tip on another forum that got me going. It basically suggested that this program is very touchy when it comes to any sort of virus that can impact the start up executable timing. I found an article which I've included below that details a number of free programs that can be used to remove virus from your computer. I followed these steps exactly and it got the program working. Direct X 11 still does not work, but instead of crashing it returned me to the initial Direct X 11 / 9 selection screen, so that may really be some sort of issue with my graphics settings. Next I selected the DX 9 option, got the flash screen as before, only this time "SUCCESS" the program loaded correctly. Please note before trying these steps, I tested both DX 9 and DX 11 options and both crashed as I explained in my entry above. As I explained in my earlier post, I've been trying every suggestion that I've seen in the forums and none of them worked for me. It is also worth noting that I have been running this game for years without any problems and have purchased 100% of the added content so my version of the game is fully loaded. Some of the things I tried which made no difference were:
1. verified game cache files.
2. Removed and reinstalled from scratch.
3. Removed a second time, created a clean steam directory on one of my other 1tb seagate disks and installed so this was the only game loaded on that disk.
4. Manually ran all of the installers from the steam install director for the game, in both the default steam direction and the one I created in step 3.
4. Deleted all of my subscribed mods and the mod manager.
5. Tried running Steam in off-line mode.
6. Disabled the SLI mode on my graphics screens, forced the minimum graphics settings in the Nvidia control panel, and disabled 2 of my systems 3 screens.
None of this stuff made a difference but the tip that this program was susceptible to some of the cookie tracking type ad virus got me thinking there might be something to that tip. My system has been bothered with pop up ad windows in both ME, Chrome and Firefox. They had been driving me crazy but my Nortan Anti Virus product was not doing the trick. Even tried a full system scan on the latest virus files from Nortan prior to following the steps included in the link below and confirmed after doing this and rebooting I still had the problem with the hang at the flash screen.
The link below is a is a cook book solution and has you down load a number of free scanners. Interestingly each of them found a few other things that the others missed so it is worth while doing all steps and only takes about an hour start to finish. I down loaded every program using the links provided in the article and all were legit and you will not plagued with all of the phishing crap that so many of these sites to pull.

Because shogun 2 will load pack file from Rome 2 ((^*(^%*(&) all games in 1 starter moron idea), you have to delete them to play.
*********BUT BEWARE OF SHOGUN 2 PACK FILES IN THIS FOLDER 2. DON'T DELETE THOSE FILES:
BOOT
BG_ORG
SHADERS
AND OTHER PACK FILES THAT OVER 600MBS

I have the same problem. any HELP please?
mike_1706 Feb 16, 2016 @ 2:51pm
hey guys,
i had the same problem.

Problem discription:
start Shogun 2 and you get the loading screen. after some time it crashes down and you get no error just that it isnt working anymore.

fixing the problem:
I have no idea why it worked, i found it on the internet on a YouTube tutorial comment: and it basically said:
Uninstall McAfee Web Adviser

Windows computers:
Close all web browsers.
Open the Control Panel.
Double-click Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs.
Select McAfee SiteAdvisor (or McAfee WebAdvisor) from the programs list and click Uninstall or Remove.

i restarted the game afterwards. you'll have to wait a little while at the loading screen but it worked for me.

hope it will help you all. upvote this comment if it helped you so everyone can play the game.
