Shogun 2 good CO-OP game?

So me and my cousin are looking to play another coop game as we often do. We particularlly like games where you can play through the entire single player campaign co-op. (ie Borderlands, Red Alert 3) Does Shogun 2 allow for something like this?

If so should we just start off with the standard "Shogun 2" and hold off on any expansions for starters? Keep in mind neither myself nor my cousin have ever played any Total War game before. Its between this and Civ5 which we also haven't played.

-Yes, shogun 2 have co-op and head to head campagin map. Civ 5 is also a good one but you should really get all of CIV 5 DLC such as Brave New World.
-Only major Shogun 2 DLC is the ikki okki clan
-Fall of the Samuria is also a good stand alone expansion for shogun 2.
-Also you should wait until the christmas sale to buy these.

Anyone have an idea if Shogun 2 is "easier to get into" than Civ5? My cousin just picked up Civ5 and he says he feels lost on what to do.

Civ V is horrible without the two expansions. It doesn't even warrant being sold as a game without them, since there's so little to do.

yes Shogun 2 is easier to get into. however if you've never played any Total War game then you're going to feel lost as well. It all depends on what type of gameplay you want, to really decide between the two of them....

Shogun 2 was my first Total War game. I certainly got lost the first time I tried the campaign, but I can't complain because I started out with multiplayer campaign, without even trying out the tutorials. If you diligently work through the tutorials, you will get the hang of it, but it is also lot of information, so take your time with it. Then try out the short campaign, and after that you should be good to go for the domination campaign, where your clan tries to conquer the whole of Japan.

As for the gamplay in the battlefield, I'm able to beat the AI in normal difficulty, and ocassionally in hard difficulty. But in the multiplayer, I usually get raosted. I've been able to win against a few newbies (who have low rank and XP); I guess they're just as newbie as me to the TW series. In the multiplayer naval battles, I'm still short of a single victory in the 4 attempts that I've given it lol. Check out guides on battling in Youtube or Steam; those guys are so good that I get overwhelemd just watching the strategies and tactics they pull off.
