Fire by Rank vs Kneel Fire
Why would anyone use FbR when KF seem so much better? Specially if you use suppression. Is there any situation where FbR is actually better?

Actually, all of CA's fire drills are broken, wrong or clumsy.
- Fire by rank causes animation delays which decreases the unit's performance.
- Kneel Fire only allows 2/3 of the men to shoot. Besides, Kneel Fire locks your unit in place so it can't move anymore.
Moreover, if a unit is stuck somewhere due to pathfinding issues, you'll have a problem.

The best fire drill is "all ranks fire" as it causes the least amount of problems and you don't need to push a button.

Fire by rank is not as effective as Kneel fire...in fact I don't think the option for fire by rank is for any of the better units in FotS. Rather than firing 1 rank at a time and waiting for reloads, kneel fire works better since the guns in FotS are faster breech loaders, giving you an almost constant fire from 2 ranks at once.

If you remember from Empire or Napoleon total war, Platoon fire was even better than FbR, again, giving you constant fire in a wave-like fashion.

In Napoleon and ETW, FbR (it was called platoon firing in ETW and NTW) was so much better since there was a wave of fire. By the time every single platoon in the unit had fired, or sometimes even before that point, the first unit to fire had reloaded so there was constant fire. Kneeling fire was terrible, since there was long reload moments where ranks would fire, and was only helpful for shock against a cavalry charge that was close, but not when two infantry lines were engaging each other.

In Shogun, maybe kneeling fire would be better since the guns load faster, but it's not like they have different guns, they are still using muzzle loaders, (even though that is not appropriate for the time period).

Especially when you have a foreign veteran with a fast reload skill, makes it awesome

I've always had problems with fire by rank. There seems to be a huge delay before firing. The enemy could be half way in to the firing cone before they shoot and cavalry can even hit home before a shot is even fired at all.

I tend to just drag the unit as thin as possible and leave them on standard fire.

Elite infantry like the Tosa riflemen, Imperial Guard, Carbine cavalry, US marines, etc. actually use cartridge weapons.

You stated the units in FotS with kneel fire all use muzzle-loaders. Many of them actually use breech loaders with fixed cartridges. The units that do have these guns are far superior to their muzzle-loading counterparts both in reload speed and accuracy.

I find kneel fire works fine in FotS with these units, especially if you are expecting to be charged. It's less ideal on the offensive though.

That is a lie. I didn't state anything. But now I will mention that all the guns in this game use muzzle-loading animation.

Yea, they do use a muzzle-loading animation. Only the units with ram-rods are actually using muzzle loaders though.
