Shogun 2 has stopped working.
I don't know why this suddenly started happing but for a few weeks now whenever I try to boot the game I get to the first loading screen, the cursor changes to the arrowhead-esque shape and then I get an error window saying "Shogun 2 has stopped working"

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, verifying integrity of cache and tried deleting the Shogun 2 folder in Appdata as other threads prescibe but it's still happening. It's not my antivirus programs or my firewall, I tried switching them off before booting up, and even if it was them they've all had no problem with the game whatsoever since I bought it. I also tried searching the registry for Incredibar, and there's no such instance in my registry.

If there are any other potential solutions I'd be grateful to know.

I FIXED IT!

I don't remember where I saw the solution, I think it was another discussion on Steam. Someone was instructed to uninstall McAfee Siteadvisor or WebAdvisor (It's name has changed) I checked out control panel and low and behold I had it. I uninstalled it and now Shogun is working again.

Thanks to all of you for your help and support, and I hope word about this little POS program gets around if it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with peoples' games.
^Listen to this guy everyone. A mod needs to pin a thread showing this as a fix
this will not be pinned down, all antivirus program has blocked games before , and sooner and later , someone forget to turn it on again and get infected by it and then they blame the pinneed down company thread... so i bet this is where we are, unless CA add a own recommendation that people can try

It wasn't the antivirus itself that blocked the game. Siteadvisor is a seperate program that runs as a browser extension independently of the core program.
i know,

but then you test stuff like that firewall and antivirus program is off ... and that how you figure it out with any antivirus / firewall program, ( temporarily disable antivirus and firewall )

Hey Brother; The same problem here and the following soution totally worked to resolve the issue. Just be careful about "The Expert's" advice you follow.

I had the same problem. I showed this to 2 other posters who seemed to have the same issue. PLEASE TRY THIS BEFORE GOING INTO TASK MANAGER AND SHUTTING DOWN A BUNCH OF STUFF UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU"RE DOING OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO DOES; You'll end up with a bigger mess than you have already....

The first splash screen came up and then an error entiled "stopped working". Following another post of an effective solution which worked for me. I'm running Windows 8.1. If you have McAfee site advisor or web advisor, uninstall it. Not just disable; UNINSTALL IT. Exit Steam and set it to "Run As Administrator". Right click on Steam exe where your main Steam installation is. Usually c//steam. Find the steam.exe and rightclick, select properties, check Run as Administrator, Also in Run Compatability mode, open dropdown and for me it is Windows 8. Select OK. Restartthe computer and steam. You should now be able to play Shogun 2.

Good luck, I hope this will help you. It's a simple fix and you don't have to alter any files. However closing unneccessary programs is good for FPS because these programs aren't consuming power that could be used for your game/RAM.... Just remember what settings were changed because it will cause programs to become inoperable.
Respect,
LavaHawaii

Can confirm.
Mcafee site advisor was activated for the past four hours or so of me looking for a solution. I checked out Rawfire's suggestion and after disabling firewall protection and deleting site advisor (not sure if one or both is necessary but i did both) shogun 2 got to main menu again.
mods please pin as bug fix
Thank you Rawfire, here is an internet for your insight
will you please turn it on again, and contact mcfee, its clear for most of us, that you dont understand what we talk about in rawfire thread, its only site advisor you need to uninstall
not the rest of the mcfee anti virus

only mcfee can help you with a solutions

Hrm. So after adjusting, deleting, etc. just about everything I could think of, I deleted and re-installed Shogun. As a reflex and not really expecting it to work, I am seeing the intro movie. I couldn't be happier! Wish I knew what specifically it was since maybe I should have deleted/reinstalled first before I started heavy tweaking. Either way...good luck to those of you still suffering from this.
well come to the club Father Ribs , you could have a double bug error , but after update all what you could or whatever u did the reinstall kick in and work as it should, but many think there is only one bug , but we could had many if you real think over it...but we never talk about that...
