I always liked the Radious (Think thats the correct spelling) series of mods, but the 'best' according to most people is the DarthMod. They both overhaul the whole game, but from my viewpoint DarthMod tries to improve realism while Radious is more about expanding and adding new content.

Personally I like every mod which adds historical realism to the game. I probably wont play the Radius Mod. Nor will I play fall of the Samurai since that is not historically correct with those Americans.

If you're interested in realism (slower-paced battles, realistic unit rosters etc.), you could try Shogun 2 Realism+, Rise of the Samurai Realism+ or my Shogun 2 Total Realism combat beta.

i dont know all the mods on the top of my head but i like to use extended japan, ravnes 4000% income tarrifs, extened year ( 12 turns to make a full year, makes aging slow ), cheaper samurai, extra talent points. with the income tarrifs it makes all the major clans the dominate ones actually giving the tokugawa a very strong chance of becoming shogun. if your talking realism. those mods gave me the closest experience to the sengoku

that mod works great, but dont use it with the expanded/extra province mod as the non-vanilla clans will be unbalanced
