Graphics Override Not Working
Alright, so, I went into my preferences.script file and I changed the gfx_memory from 0 to 536870912 which should have bypassed the graphics restrictions and given me control. However, what happens is that whenever I start the game, I'm still stuck with low-setting options when it should have allowed me to set it as high as ultra.

I have done this on Shogun 2 before but when my computer crashed I had to reinstall everything and now this override isn't working anymore. I have no idea why and I need some help or advice

don't override it, obviously you have a low-end graphics card if you can't access Ultra in 2014. This game doesn't take a lot. You'll end up with low fps and low res if you up your graphics with the bypass. Go get a 100 dollar graphics card or a EVGA GTX 750 ti sc which is only 150 its cheap and you'll run shogun 1080p 60fps for sure.

I've run it on Ultra before my computer crashed and I've gotten pretty decent frame rates with the right tweaks, such as lowering shadows, turning off anti-aliasing, and so on. I know what my computer can handle, also I'd like to mention I have a laptop, no desktop. I just want to have control in figuring that out for myself

Lol your computer crashed, when playing shogun on ultra maybe ? Idk just stick with low/medium so you get something higher than 30fps.

you realize it uses Cpu for rendering, so if you have a poor cpu it will not allow to go above low settings, so changing gfx_mem does nothing.

That is hilarious because of how wrong you are. My old computer could only run on medium for shogun 2 because it was "locked" off from the higher settings, so I changed my graphics card to a better one and it allowed me to hit Ultra. I no longer have that old PC but graphics IS used. You obviously don't know anything about computers.

"What we did have was the core of the scenery and weather systems, and the AI and animation engine for the soldiers." quote from Intel on Cpu usage for Shogun2. animation = redering.
So your using a new computer with same graphics card and its not working? hmm what could it be...

and excuse me but I know more about computers than you since I build my own Pc with a m5a99fx mb and amd 8350fx and I can run shogun2 and rome2 on ultra and not on fan forums begging for help.

I'm not the one begging for help, you're sadly mistaken. If you can't run rome 2 on extreme that's sad. Try running a i7 4.5ghz overclocked cpu and have an intel HD graphics card and I can guarantee you'll never run shogun 2 or rome 2 ultra/extreme. You obviously know very little about computers and made a bad one at that.

you're the one trying to run a intel graphic card not me.

It was an example -.- You're obviously a troll. Anyone with any backround with PC will tell you that you need graphics memory to play games, lol. Such troll little kids on steam.

Im having a similar problem with the grafics i guess, but the thing is that ( and if im allowed to use this post to express my problem) in the graphics menu it is all on high, but when i start the game the resolution that is showed to me on the screen is like it was on low, and i played with high b4 and i had a pretty good resolution of the graphics, do anybody know whats happening?

hey scorpii, did you ever find the solution? I have the exact same problem as you now, I have a Intel(R) HD graphics card and I can't override it... every time I change the gfx_memory, it saves in preferences but the button in the game for high graphics is still greyed out...

I can run rome 2 on high graphics (can even set it to ultra or the highest one if I wanted but playing on high doesn't lag for me) but for some reason I can't run shogun on high? (buttons are greyed out).

I don't even care about the actual graphics, It just pisses me off when the dead bodies in the battle field disappear because I can't put unit detail to high... it just completely breaks the immersion of the game seeing bodies disappear...

if you have found the solution, please help me out? thanks :)

heynub I did solve the issue. Go to C:/(Insert User Name Here)/AppData/Roaming/TheCreativeAssembly/Empire/scripts. If you don't see AppData, you have it hidden, google it to found out how to unhide it. In the scripts folder, find gfx_video_memory and change the 0 to 536870912. Save the file then it should work

Thank you, but I've tried this and it's not working :(
I've tried it with napoleon and empire total war and it works perfectly fine when I change the gfx_video_memory from 0 to 536870912 and it lets me change the graphics to high or very high in settings in the main menu

but when I try it with shogun 2 total war, I did the same thing and changed the gfx_video_memory from 0 to 536870912, the file does save but when I go in game settings in the main menu, the graphics for high are still greyed out?

I've looked everywhere for a solution, the most popular solution is the method that you described above... for some reason, it only works for napoleon and empire for me and not with shogun 2? I seem to be the only one with this problem? :(
help?
