The best way to pull this off would be moving your army next to a bridge that a enemy faction will have to cross.
I would add that it is only for arquebuse units. Archers get "shield screen."
And yes, they are awesome in bridge battles....enemy charges across only to find itself in a "box" of walls :)
If the A.I. doesn't move, it just means that the A.I. broke. lol
And if there's no time limit... good luck waiting xD
But sometimes in medieval 2 the A.I plays defensive while besieging me.I would have won the battle against knights with my milita units.I even managed to place a cannon right next to heir ladders and one knight was even watching the cannons(standing next to it) while i was destroying their ladders.They retractet them and went back to spawn...waiting
FotS units have other types of defenses, IRC.
I tend to play sengoku campaign way more than Fall, so I'm not 100%...but I think they can use gabeons or something in FotS.

There is a mod though that enables some FoTS units to use them.
