Incite a revolt and take over the settlement once the rebels occupy it.
Its going to give you diplomacy mali but thats still better than an outright war declaration(and once RD hits and you become a vanguard doesnt even really matter anymore).
Also a good way to color the map in a sensible way while preparing to go Republic.
So if you're surrounded by imperial provinces it will be really easy to cause rebellions. Also give your ishin shishi any upgrades that refer to inciting revolts, and their success rates will go way up.
I don't go out of my way of course to attack my own side, but got to break some eggs to make an omelette so if you're in my way I'm going to fix that.
This campaign is all about turtleing. You want your troops to always have a fort when they defend the town. A samurai unit on a wall can rack up upwards of 300 kills despite their small unit size and still be functional as an amazing melee unit.
Navy's in this game are pretty overpowered. The ships on this map have abilities that nuke morale so you should be able to win every time and rule the waves with ease.
Tons of cheap stacks that shred most infantry and cavalry the AI will field.
It also means you have to manually fight every single battle since autoresolve pretends traditional units dont exist, hah.
Its not necessarily something I would suggest for your first run but its a nice change in gameplay and requires a rather different approach(both in battle as well as on the map, since your economy will be absolutely crippled by staying in the first development tier to get those traditional units buffs).
Levy infantry, matchlock kachi and spear levies are all awful. Spear levies are ok to kill off cavalry but that's about it. Just get line infantry, rush to research kneel fire, and you'll win every battle within seconds.
