Clan Shimazu tips

This is my first time playing with this clan (i only played with the clan Date and got annihilated during realm divide), and i looking for some tips. Like where you shoud i atack first? The other clans on the same island of your capital or atack the Chosokabe clan island to the East ?

Also, i notice one of the first regions i invaded had a Nanban Trade Port already built, so is advisable convert to Christianity? (i'm aware of the benefits and disadvantages of converting).

realy depends on what you want do you want to go,
A: the way of the warrior fight honorable and decapicte heads (or someting)
or B: wanna blast your enemy apart let there walls crumble and rull the seas

A: bushido
B: cristianity

also secure your eiland my experiance is close up Hizen your capital and that silly province east of your capital the one you take (or should take first)
My experiance is there is where the enemy if they attack you by sea or land strike the most

afther that its your choice ya could team up with chosukabe as long as it last
or do what ever you want

but i recomend while drinking take the eiland (even sober id recomend it)

also if you stay busido destoy the naban port or put in a monk + good temple and enjoy the extra trade route + bigger cargo

Shimazu is probably the one who needs tips the least. Pretty easy game for them.

Strong clan and located on the southern edge of the map. Unifying Kyushu is simple no matter what techs of social advancements you have while securing the trade nodes before anyone else does. Once Kyushu is yours, go for the big Honshu or the nearby Shikoku.

Sometimes a bit of turtle and reconsolidation of power may be needed if fame is high to prevent defeat during coalition, but Shimazu typically only has one front at that point.

The only way to fail with shimazu is converting to Christianism.
First time I failed because I did that.
Now that I have over 500+ hours of game I can win with a christian shimazu, but you really need to know a lot about this game before trying to play as christian other then Otomo.

Try an approach then that doesn't rely on much in the way of battlefield or strategic level decision making.

Go zerg on the AI and from turn one focus on recruiting ash and attack with overhwelming odds.

Keep at this strategy till you control the island Shimazu starts on.

Then turn to the Chi side of things wtih research and development of the provinces along with taking back some of the european trade nodes for additional income.

Priority is getting the trade nodes, don't worry too much about land grabbing - slow and steady - keep the trade ships building. Start by getting bow kaboyas on them to claim them until you get trade ships. Most clans are unlikely to start a war over a trade node, but watch out for the wako ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also a few katana samurai is plenty in the beginning, if you even bother with them at all. Focus on ashigaru while you take the island, they are amazingly cost effective units.

Convert to christianity asap for the smoothest run. Once nanban quarter is up you want 2 nanban trade ships + 8 regular on every trade node, even the ponies and iron on the other sides of the map. Also have 2 nanban ships guarding any ports where trade routes are flowing, prioritize the most valuable ones first as building the trade ships is slow work.

Once you control the island and all the trade nodes, just tech up, bank cash and get prepared for realm divide which you can activate at your leisure.

Spam katana samurai+ Spam Yar Ashigaru+ upgrade blacksmiths+ repeat previous steps = profit.

is there any way you can delete your units. what if I spam ashigaru and want to get rid of their upkeep later so I can field my advanced doods

All units have a disband button except the daimyo. It's a little flag on the portrait on the bottom left of the screen.

When I said spam ashigaru I really meant just make sure you have enough to intercept cav, your katana samurai will anihilate most all infantry you encounter early game... because shimazu and because blacksmith.

Yes the Chosukabe are also an excellent clan for new players, archer bonus, farm bonus, easily defensable starting position.

Just don't neglect your navy for too long.
