Moar fun? FotS
only have about 500 hours on FOTS. Find it boring to watch guns just shoot at each other, position and fire... boring as hell for me.
Visually it's a lot more polished. Personally I think the tech tree and economy are better and more interesting than those of Shogun 2.
However there are a lot of things in FOTS that are just a mess. On land the AI is completely brain-dead and will endlessly spam worthless samurai armies. Once you get kneel fire you can kill any army. Artillery is just overkill and the AI has no idea how to counter it.
On sea the AI is somehow able to endlessly spam ships, so they destroy all coastal buildings at a completely absurd rate. They really really messed up the naval aspect of FOTS and things like coastal fortifications and bombardments.
Better is just as well subjective. So now the medal goes to FotS.
Traditional units outside of the very early game are pretty bad in FOTS, but that's clearly intended as you are supposed to replace units with more and more modern replacements. As a representation of the Hollywood understanding of the time period, FOTS knocks it out of the park. The nice touch of being able to betray both sides and declare yourself independent allows for one of the neatest late game challenges of any TW game. FOTS does have a lot of problems, but most of those problems are carried over from Shogun 2.
At least I think most of us will agree Rise of the Samurai wasn't very good. Very few units, repetitive gameplay, and a huge focus on agent actions at the expense of all else. On top of it all, the game's finicky diplomacy is at full display, with it not being uncommon that your sister clan declares war on you within the first 10 turns for no apparent reason.
In fots, I use radious mod, and there are hundreds of units for free
radious mod make guns much more prolong and meaningful.
Maybe the problem you need to tackle is looking to strangers in a steam forum to convince you to play a game rather than simply going ahead and playing it and forming your own opinion about it.
Oh, and mods are the most overrated thing in the TW gaming sphere. People act like they are doing magical stuff to the game, they are most certainly not.
If you want to see what real impact from mods looks like, go play rimworld.
