Are gun towers worth it?
Okay, so i am trying something different in this play through. to avoid the problem of have one beef army on the offensive, but token defense in my cash towns constantly being land invaded, are gun towers worth it? Are they good at punishing the enemy siege or are they kinda garbage? its alot of research and money to get these, and I don't want to install these things, get my town captured anyway and now THEY have gun towers and you get a Siege of Vraks situation.

are these worth getting?

my current playthrough, i have the smallest unit sizes and 20% upkeep, so enemy stacks travel around in groups of 4-8. small units get well shot up by towers but wont stop them taking your castle but they can help a lot

so its not good or bad, jsut helps?

i like them, but i would rather use the city slot for something else, when i have the 4th slot open on a city i will add a gun tower.

that's usually when i add them. Though I think i should see what the cannon versions of the towers look like.

They are worthless because they'll do pitiful damage to the enemy, then the AI will capture them and use them against you. Just put line infantry in your castles and you'll kill everything.

I've always wanted to upgrade gun towers to max, but by the time I unlock that tech the game is basically over and the AI isn't attacking my castles anymore, plus it's kinda hard to pick one castle to upgrade when you're at war with all of Japan. Once I accidentally attacked an AI castle that had the max cannon upgrades and it was like trying to attack the Death Star, lol. Pretty crazy. All the walls were basically giant cannons that fired constantly.

if you ever considered arrow towers being helpful, pick gun towers then.
it's like arrows that constantly on fire + ignoring armor. good for shooting low-men high armored squads. plus it has rapid fire that only has little cooldown

Well the Deathstar fortress sounds kinda cool actually

I made the defense line of research a bit cheaper in FotS so it becomes a more viable option to research. Can make for some fun sieges :)

If interested, check my workshop-content.

Guns also do morale damage and can break units. Ashigaru units for example rarely make it to a keep or a gun unit before they break and run
