Total War Fall of Samurai is worth it?

i have the shogun 2 base game for long time now, so i want to buy fall of samurai dlc. worth it? because i see in the review it is mixed

Yes it is absolutely worth it. Fall of the Samurai is a great game. The reviews are mixed cause CA rebranded the game as a Saga title to push sympathy for Troy and Thrones of Britannia. And people disliked this as it also included a price increase. Additionally CA removed chat some months ago and with it broke the mod launcher and so people couldnt play with mods anymore. All this resulted in people posting negative reviews. But you can read what the negative reviews say. Almost all of them are against CA and its decisions, nothing against the gameplay.

Yes.

Fall of the samurai has bad reviews because of CA. Some other Total War games also got hit by a wave of review bomb due to recent CA f ups. Fall of the samurai specifically, because it used to be a DLC for Shogun 2 much like Rise of the samurai. CA decided to change Fall of the samurai into this "SAGA" type game.

The game itself is fine and actually really good if you like that kind of line warfare. It's focused on guns way more than melee or bows even though you can play either or mixed.

If you like Shogun 2 then you will probably like it. It's at least worth a few playthroughs.

I would say though that unlike Shogun 2, it is pretty clear that they didn't ever really finish or completely polish the game. There are some things that are wildly unbalanced, mainly the AI's complete inability to properly wage war on land, and its ridiculously overpowered naval capabilities. I just completely ignore the naval side of the game because life is too short to pull my hair out when the AI completely destroys all my ports for the 10,000th time.

It’s 100% worth it. Not a difficult game at all, everyone should play on legendary. It becomes a WW1 sim during mid and late game with armstrong guns, and the ships are no issue at all. Even playing as republic, where you don’t have friendly AI navies carrying you, a 3 stack of kotetsu or the french/us/british ironclad can wipe all the AI stacks with explosive shell.

It's probably one of if not the easiest TW game because the AI simply cannot comprehend how to deal with the firepower of the units in the game, but it can be fun. Not as good as the base game, though.

If you like gunpowder warfare it's worth it, if you don't then it's not.

Fall of the Samurai is reputed as one of the best DLCs in the Franchise. If you like Total War games in general, and interested in line infantry/cannon warfare this is a great choice imo!

The time period is interesting as you'll play the internal civil war of Japan opening up on the modern era.
With the addition of the Rise of the Samurai DLC, you'll get to play the full Japan epoch. Only recommended if you enjoyed Shogun 2 and want more to play.

Negative reviews are manly because of the rebranding of FotS into a Saga title, there are many players from Empire fans that prefer FotS to Shogun 2.

Absolutely. The age between the samurai and modernization is really fun and interesting. Confliction with culture vs reality is beautiful.

yea buy it, for $2.00 or $10.00 it is worth it a different twist on the game. Shogun forever play as the Azure the black faction and conquer all of Japan!!!!
