Cant start new campaign
I recently reinstalled shogun 2 and I cannot select a new campaign to start. All options are greyed out and when I try a historical battle mygame crashes. Ive tried deleting everything in appdata and steam folders + reinstalling a couple of times. I've also verified the files. Anyone know what to do?

Bump

Update:

The solution to this has turned out to be not starting the .exe as administrator.

Thank you!!! I've spent all day looking for a solution to this problem. How is it possible that it isn't in the support thread?

How do you start the game not as an administrator?

Download the game and play. Run the game as administrator is something you have to do.
In Rome and Medieval 2 in order to avoid random crashes you must run the game as administrator (right click on the .exe file-properties-compatibility-check the box). So I thought to do the same thing in Shogun: i downloaded it and run it as admin.

Thanks for the response. I did as you said (because I have the same issue as you), but when I loaded the into the main screen. I wasn't able to even click the buttons. Like when you hover over the new campaign option the three normally bright yellow buttons are grayed out and unclickable. Anyone know why that would be?

Have you ever played with any mods?

I have but I deleted them all and completely refreshed the download.

Ok.

Make sure you are not subscribed to any of them on steam.

Locate this directory:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2

Note: Your drive may not be C:\ (it depends where you installed the game)
Note: <User> is the default for your username on your computer. Your username may be different.
Note: AppData is a hidden folder. Either check the box to view hidden items in windows explorer or, search for the folder as %AppData% to locate it.

When you have found the folder, back up any screenshots or save game files that you want to keep.

Now delete the Shogun2 folder at that location.

Next, if you have them installed, uninstall the mod tools The Assembly Kit and TEd.

Check your Data folder for any mod .pack files in there and move them out if there are any.

This will give you a clean install. Now verify your game files on steam and launch the game.

At the launcher, open the mod manager and confirm that there are no mods listed there. Not that they are not selected, check that there are no mods. If there are any we need to figure out where they are and why they are there.

If there are no mods there, launch the game and confirm that it works.

If it does, close the game, resubscribe to mods, copy your save games and screenshots back and all should be well.

Thanks. I had cleared the other file. But clearing out the AppData was the final ticket!
