yeah . play a clan with bushido research, before you play a clan that dont have it, so you can understand how to counter that force then you are not such clan

ps.
bushido research clan
bow
spear
sword
horse

master those clans ability first before you try other clan abilitys

turn 1 is important. ally shogun and declare war on asai clan /dont attack now/ recruit 2 units and here you go just camp there whle.

you have 3 ninja places nearby (kii omi and iga) use them all to smuggling networkt (1k income and good ninjas)

build market as much as you can and train metsukes for your rich cities to increase income

abuse ninjas

ambushes are way too great for you try to sneak near castles and wait them come

make allys or atleast make some vassals so you dont have to fight all sides usally enemy of your enemies are likely to be your ally

use battle nearly all time you cant lose soldiers at early

ikko will attack you when you get omi so be prepared ( you can kill their army and peace with them for a long time)

you must take omi and kii they are very rich regions

First of all, ally the Ashikaga. Defeat all the clans surrounding their province to encricle them. Then just make a ♥♥♥♥ ton of Markets and Sake Dens. Then hire a ♥♥♥♥ ton of Metsuke's. And after, hire a ♥♥♥♥ ton of ninjas and Ashigaru units (If you hire a whole army of Ashigaru, they can easily take down an Ikko Ikki Monk army). Make sure to Sabotage the armies first before attacking, and sabotage any other provinces you plan on capturing. Another good beginning-game strategy is to take out both of Ikko Ikki's provinces before they get big, but don't spread farther. It get's hard to defend after awhile.

Thanks alot. This was very helpfull :)

EDIT: I did focus on military and attacked my border clans asap. Used alot of agents aswell. I then survived the first turns and could recruit armies once my capitol was attacked. Im now having a good game. Thanks again <3

You can use night battles to pick off single targets!

Isn't hattori in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ starting position where it has to move through shogun's territory? Key in my opinion is to have militaristic edge by doing following
-ninja army sabotage is OP for it allows you to worry less about fighting multiple front (which should have been avoided in the first place but if it happens this is usually the best backup)
-Hattori's deployment is pretty sweet although defending AI has tendancy to just sit on the nearest hill.
-Hattori night battle allows to fight one stack (no reinforcement) which can be great if situation permits it
-AI is pretty dumb when it comes to developing province and in most cases will just spam ashigaru. Fast teching to get sword school and getting katana samurai can be a game changer early on.

Ahh yes. Completely forgot about that? I love night battles so much! It seems that the Ikko Ikki have a tendency to have one huge army, and then a little one or two following behind. You can easily pick out the big one, and the rest can be considered already dead.

Not neccesarily. As I said before, you can simply ally the Shogun and move around them. So when the time comes you can create 3 huge stacks of armies to attack at once. A simple auto-resolve can end the Ashikaga blood-line :)

And yes. Recruit as many ninjas as possible. I usually have 1 ninja to stay behind, and the other 2 are sent to sabotage the next army or province I want to capture.

Killing the Ikko Ikki ASAP is a really important/ good move for the Hattori because you get a blacksmitsh and a fletchers + 2 very fertile provinces..... and the kicker..... everyone hates the Ikko ikki warring with them is a boon to your diplomacy with other clans which is crucial because even after expanding with the Hattori it can be bloody annoying defending your territory because it can become so spread so quickly and for most of early-mid game you have 3 potential fronts.

Also obviously and I am surprised no one has mentioned it yet.... sell millitary access once you take a few provinces.... sell sell sell and put the cash to good use.

Hattori bandits are a not totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ranged unit and when you capture the fletchers and get their accuracy they can be a very effective cheap and chearfull ranged unit.

With Hattori just watch your RD bar closely, make sure you have at least one strong ally to the North East that will survive through RD and never ever waste a potential ninja action, having vetted up ninja's ready to cripple enemy armies during RD when you are always akwardly fighting on so many fronts as the Hattori can make a massive difference.

Why use ashigaru armies when the most fun in playing hattori comes from "kisho training"?
Any samurai unit (except general) can deploy outside the standard yellow zone.
Sooo much fun and this also allows you to simulate an ambush every battle.
Wich in turn allows you to use smaller armies to great effect.

**edit: Apparently I forgot ashigaru have kisho training aswell.. It was monks that couldn't deploy outside the zone. After browsing the forum I got into playing again and started a Hattori campaign. Boy was I embarrased, at the start my first deployement, when I saw all the ashigaru standing outside the zone.. :< **
