I didn't Pirate this game!
This is absolutely ludacrious. I'm not gonna lie, I have pirated games before, but apparently, when I launch Shogun 2.. it says I prated this. If you click on my name, you will see that I have clearly purchased this game, and have logged over 60+ hours into this.
I bought this game during the 2013 Summer sale, and have made a return to play this, simply because Rome 2 has failed to deliver on expectations (but mainly poor optimization).
When I press launch (with a couple of mods installed), it gives me this retarded message that says (to give a snippet) " We have detected that your Steam installation has been corrupted and the game will now exit. This is usually due to an attempt to play a pirated copy of the game, but in some cases be caused by a virus or cheat program."
I unchecked my mods, and even deleted them, still same message. Then I verified the system integrity... SAME MESSAGE! This si very annoying, considering how well it played just last week.

This happens to me when I want to play in offline mod. I guess they want to force you to stay online so that they can analyze and steal your data.
This message is ridiculous as Steam isn't able to detect pirated copies.
I figured out the fix, when this shows up, you have to restart Steam, but honestly... even if it was pirated... I could've just cracked the damn thing, and play it anyway, which nullifies the whole error to a giant waste of time.

I'm having a similar problem. I've owned the game on Steam for years, along with every DLC. Worked fine a little over a month ago, but I guess I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it a few days ago, and now this happens as soon as I get into a battle: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=305780692

Three re-installs from scratch, 10 verify cache attempts later it's still happening. Restarting Steam doesn't make it stop. No mods. No BS. I'm assuming Steam is just installing the game corrupt, cause there's no other explanation. I tried emailing support, but they just send you automated responses about nothing and never give you any real help. CA also isn't responding on their forums. This problem arose a couple of years back too. I don't remember how they fixed it back then since I was never afflicted with it. Probably a conspiracy to get people to stop playing this and buy the piece of ♥♥♥♥ known as Rome 2.

Funny thing is I could've had this game pirated, fully modded, and up and running flawlessly if not better than it does on Steam within 40 mins of this problem arising, rather than spending DAYS trying to figure out why the ♥♥♥♥ it's happening. Gotta' love paying for ♥♥♥♥ service.

you look like you have an even more serious problem... when this happened to me, it would only happen after launch, but not after I started the game. Honestly dude, just pirate the thing, you bought it, you should be able to play it. As far as I know, the Pirated version isn't as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as the Empire pirated version, so you should go right ahead.
This whole DRM crap is dumb to begin with, making paying customers suffer for the actions of others. As a Pirate myself, I honestly feel bad for people who legitimately purchase their versions (like you), as us Pirates can still the play the game, even with this whole DRM bullcrap running rampant.

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up of it being fixed. I probably will do that eventually and just say F it. Can use Evolve to setup a VLAN if I want to play co-op so I won't be missing out on much. I went through every possible fix I could think of or dig up on the web yesterday. Eventually decided to email Sega help to see if maybe they can push Valve or CA to get on top of this issue. It might come down to uninstalling Steam and reinstalling from scratch, but I'm not giving up my Skyrim mod setup to start it from scratch until I've at least finished the game (which I pretty much never do since I'm always tinkering with it.) Especially where there's a high probability that I could go ahead and do that, and this stupid problem will still persist, thus enraging me even further.

I'm just going to keep playing some other games that're actually reliable on my PSP and maybe some Skyrim and wait for Civ: Beyond Earth and Lords of the Fallen -- Which I will not be paying for on Steam thanks to this. In the meantime I'll wait to see if there's any helpful responses from the various support venues I've contacted about this. Glad you fixed your problem though. Hopefully it stays fixed.

gl finding a nice patched to the last version Shogun 2 or FOTS

protip: you won´t, only reason i bought the game in the first place

In some cases that can be a good thing. Shogun 2 used have way better lighting and shading from what I remember before they dumbed down the graphics preceding FOTS. CA never gave an explanation or anything. You can probably still find screenshots here and there of the old World map and battle settings. World map used to have god rays and looked a lot more lush. But you're probably right, "we". The game is old as hell, and most people didn't even care for it even when it was new since TW series tends to be a niche playerbase.
